Nextgen 400/600w ballast??

Hey, I asked my hydro shop about the 400/600 Nextgen ballast that can swap between the 2 watts. They told me they don't sell them because they always break and have issues with bulb lifespan, but I can use a 600w the same way with less wear and tare. This seemed off right away, why would a company take the time to produce and market and sell a model that does its function worse than the base model? It just doesn't make sense to me. Is there any truth to this? I've felt sketchy about this guy's info in the past, always just trying to sell you what he has...

For what it's worth, I have a 1000W nextgen and I like it a lot. My particular model had a reported weakness in the cooling fan, but overall a great ballast.

My 5 year warranty is probably now expired and still no trouble.

Um, that won't work at all, will it? If you're running a 400w bulb and it's getting jacked with 600 watts, then you're going to fry that bulb. I mean, it's pretty much math. I don't trust that guy. Also, it's dangerous running a lower bulb in a higher ballast. That bulb is getting overloaded and could explode. Happens all the time with stage lights, probably happen with grow lights too. Not sure I trust what your guy is saying. Doesn't make sense. If you could just run a 400 w in a 600 w ballast, then why would they make 400 w ballasts in the first place? Very confusing.

Exactly what I said... Just gives me a bad gut feeling so I asked on here. I have a 400w Nextgen right now and its been working great over the last 2 months, but I was thinking a 400/600 would mean I can pump out 400w MH for my veg stage and then when that plants are bigger and ready to flower throw in a 600w HPS.

Look at the dimlux Extreme with clima controller,
The Dimlux in combination with the Maxi Controller can be conneted directly into an outlet
without the intervention of relays or time clock. This saves costs.

The Maxi Controller can adjusts the output based to the temperature of the environment.
When crossing a preset temperature, the lights automatically Dim.

you can also simulate sun rise and fall.

nextgens are fun, ran a few myself. The cooling fans will squeal loudly after a while and C.A.P. wont exchange em cuz technically they still work. The ballasts are sealed for warranty reasons but if you unscrew the 4 screws that hold the back plate on the whole repair can be made without breaking the seal..
