None of us are going to use current tech for 15 yrs as things change so fast so not a factor, they will go as long as you care to use them. Local makers here are making the most efficient lights around, which will make you want to use them longer. Look for those who list exact parts or build one diy. Spectrum King will grow plants but maybe not quite the best.

Ihg is using nexlight LEDs and you can pull a 15% discount from their ig accounts. They seem to produce very well at the ~450 or whatever watts they're pulling. Price is too high for me but so I Apache and most of the prebuilt cob panels at this point. The inflation on quality LEDs is still insane, as well as the fact that the components are still fairly expensive if you want good equipment makes commercial panels not a viable light source option as a replacement for hid at this point. But it's getting there and will be soon. At that point you'll see everyone shift over to led. But until then the debates will continue and good led prices will continue to be kind of crazy.

What happened to the NextLight Mega? Only saw it out for a few months of that. I'd be apt to want one of them due to the big LES. I was considering their veg light. Do you still use yours w/ your HPS?

@BOBBY_G had a great post on the cost of HID bulb replacement vs cob cost that actually makes a lot of sense as to why HID isn't as cheap as you'd think. Maybe he'll chime in on this again.

i've been playing with DIY leds for awhile now. and I don't get it. seems like a lot of advertising hype but no real cost advantage. my last test used 4000k vero 18s driven at 500ma and the GPW was no better than my T5s. quality was about the same as well.seems like T5s are still the best option for small PU MMJ closet grows and HIDs are still the most cost effective option for large commercial grows. these companies are not doing themselves any favor by exaggerated claims like 2 or even 4 GPW.and many people have not seen the claimed life expectancy with commercial led grow lights. a mars hydro I tried started losing diodes in the first month of operation.
I have been able to replace a 4x46" T5HO (220 watts) with a 150 watt vero 18 setup. Both grow well and have a similar spectrum. BUT the vero setup saves me about 70 watts of electricity, which is close to 1/3 savings.

my 4 bulb T5 cost me $75 on ebay with bulbs. replacement bulbs cost me $5.50 each on ebay when I buy 8 bulbs. my vero18 fixture cost me $250 in parts (diodes,heat sinks,fans,drivers, misc) it would take me several years to break even and with plant and aquarium bulbs the T5 gives me a little more flexibility. I'M not saying L.E.D.s won't grow plants.they will. just looking at cost effectiveness and commenting on the highly exaggerated claims made by companies selling L.E.D.s

I think it really depends on the grower and how effectively you use your lights. I ran a 4 cob 100 watt cxa3070 panel last run alongside a vipar blurple led that pulls ~120 watts from the wall and did ~1.7gpw. I don't know many people pulling like that with t5s.

So do we know what diodes NextLight is using yet?
Your also supposed to change t5 tubes about once a year. if you use any specialty tubes such as coral waves thats closer to 10+ a tube. Good t5 units with top end ballasts aren't that cheap either.

Don't take this to the bank but I talked to a local shop about them, they are local as is next light and seem to push there lights but I was told they are Samsung
