What's up RIU?

This thread will be dedicated to my first run with the NextLight Mini. I'm not changing anything up from my normal setup other than the lights, using just these for now. Still rocking CANNA coco and nutrients with added calcium and silica. I've got it pretty dialed in and it works great for me.

Two NextLight Mini units over a 2x4 space. Each is 150w so a total of 300w. I attached a picture of the brochure they sent that describes the light. I like that they are passive/silent and well built.

6 Rainbow Sherbet cuts by King Klone. I've ran plenty of their other clones and they're always super chronic. Just transplanted into temporary cups. Their final homes will be 2g fabric pots. The plan is to veg for about 4 weeks, topping them once or twice, then 9 or so weeks of flower.

I'll be doing updates about once a week. Hope everyone enjoys the show.

I've been curious as to how these lights perform. Definitely going to be keeping an eye on it. I hope that you have wonderful results with it .and maybe you'll update this more than once a week? It'll get lost over that much time.

Thank you, sir. I knew these would be right up your alley. Glad to have you here. 10 minutes to like a post is nuts. That the dial-up connection acting up again?

What's up, Airwalker? I appreciate you stopping by and following along. Thanks for the good vibes. I'll definitely be responding to comments/questions in between the updates. Sometimes there's not much to update, especially in veg. I'll do my best to keep things fresh and interesting until the end though.

You know I'm subbed brother puff.................lets see what those samsung chips can do!

be safe

edit......noticed on your pics its a 5yr full warranty on the panels, damn good imo
Welcome aboard, brother P. The 5 year warranty is good for my peace of mind. I don't know much about Samsung LEDs but the light coming off the panel is really nice to look at. I've been a big fan of Samsung for a long time. My LED TVs are beautiful, my galaxies have all been amazing, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the actual led chips can do for mary jane.

How do you like the intensity so far? Is the power adjustable?
The power is not adjustable. Full power all the time. I'm actually starting the babies under just one Mini for now. Will get both going in a week or so, after the transplant.

I'm liking the intensity. I have no way to actually measure it but it's plenty bright. It will take some time to figure out what height gives the optimal intensity though. Right now they're hanging about 20 inches over the plants. Since the coverage is so even on these across the entire 2x4 area and because there aren't any lenses, I can drop the lights pretty close for more intensity without sacrificing coverage. Figured I'd start of kind of high and then gradually lower as the girls get going.

Good stuff man! I'm using 2 gallon pots as well with coco so this will be a good comparison grow. Same here with Samsungs, my tv's, my galaxys, love em! (Even though my tv failed after 2 years and every refurbed galaxy I got glitches lol I still love em). Let's hope they produce in this aspect of our lives. I dropped mine nice and low and the plants seem to love it so far 10 days into flower.
Good luck with them!

If it were me I wouldn't use the second one until flipping to flower that way you don't let them get used to that intensity that early on. Just use one far away and bring it closer as you get bigger. Luckily my diy has a dimmer knob I added so I can just slowly crank mine up. Wish my go green did that instead of just 2 or 4 cobs for "modes".

calling @Chronikool , one of the pioneers of growing with SMD strip lighting. These guys are using high end samsung 5630s - here is the datasheet:
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/business-images/led/file/product/lighting/201402/Data_Sheet_LM561B_High_CRI_Rev.001.pdf

if I counted right, there are about 400 leds in the mini. These guys have got to have the best profit margin on these lamps if you start looking at pricing on these chips you'll get an idea.

Good luck on the grow Puffenuff!

Those Samsung leds cheap or what?

honestly, it really depends on the bin. highest possible price I could find on digikey was $.65 per led, but they can be as little as $.09.... what they are using, who knows?

lm561b 3000k/5000k
well, I DID see that and that helps with determining spectrum but not necessarily part cost. That said, this may not be fair, but I bet you could get similar results with 2 X 5M 5630 strips (with samsung chips) for about $60 in light cost and $20 in addtional materials. All that said, I'm actually quite excited to see several grows to see what 5630s can do.

The chips are indeed LM561b 3000k/5000k and I believe they are in a 1:1 ratio.

I don't know anything about 5630 strips.

I was going to post this earlier, but since @caretak3r was the first to suggest an alternative (thanks for not being a dick about it by the way), I'd like to ask people to refrain from making comments like, "You could have went with 'X' for so much cheaper" or "X would blow these away"...

This isn't the place for that.

RIU is typically pretty hard on new LED products (in terms of breaking down the quality/value/specs). I was trying to provide useful information without suggesting anyone should go off and build their own with X product. I would imagine they are using top bins from samsung (a quality chip) and it appears they have their own custom PCB (you can buy lm561b's in premade hard (as opposed to flexible) strips directly from Samsung -- these don't appear to be that. Again, I'm very much looking forward to seeing what quality 5630s can do and appreciate the journal. I hope I didn't give you any grief.

cheers

No grief at all, bro. I'm all for info sharing and I thank you for adding to the conversation. It was more of a heads up to the community that I want to keep the focus on these lights and not on what I could have done differently.
