Nitrogen deficiency?

Hi I’m using fox farm ocean forest soil in 5
Gallon fabric pots. Seedlings popped out of the soil on 4/23/20 haven’t added anything besides PhD water to 6.5. I flipped to 12/12 on 5/23/20 all three plants are showing pistols. Temps are 74-80 rh 40-50%. I’m using a vivosun “600” watt led pulling 270 watts from the wall. I have General Hydroponics Flora trio but haven’t used any yet. Basically what I’m wondering is should I start using the nutes or can I add some more fox farm ocean forest soil to fill up my pots. Or are the leaves dying due to the light not penetrating the lower leaves. I’m just being a nervous noob and not wanting to screw up. I know removing leaves doesn’t fix the problem I just removed some of the lower leaves for space and humidity. Thanks! No this is normal. I would thin them out a bit. Those leaves that aren't getting light are sapping nutrients and energy from the plant.

ok awesome thank you for the replies. I trimmed a little bit last night but didn’t want to do too much at once. Would you recommend lollipoping all at once or just removing a little at a time? Also is it a good idea to add more ffof to fill up my pots?5967BD96-7CE3-49EF-AF0A-1C39872671D7.jpeg

How much to defoliate is a hotly debated topic around here and is entirely subjective. I'm in the camp that believes fan leaves are the engines that power the plants growth so I prune selectively. I've found that while heavy defoliation increases vegetative growth as the plant recovers. It's never really led me to better yields. But other people have had the polar opposite experience. Your liable to get 40 different answers to your question, so my best advice is to just make a plan and commit to it. Heck. You could defoliate one or two and not the other and compare results if you wanted too.

As for your other question, I do like to keep my pots filled up pretty well. I leave them down just enough to water them without making a mess.
