bag o' schwagg? 'nuff said! some strains don't put out a smell until they are nearly done, and alas, some completely finish without any aroma at all! I've seen frosty, plump buds, devoid of flavor, smell, and not surprisingly, a high either. if you want a stinky grower buy some seeds or clones of a known origin.

Bag seeds are a gamble, but I consider them great training plants to make all your
mistakes and learn with.
then buy a seed/ cutting of a plant you desire.

thats my plan, got 20 bag seeds growing and it's fun!

Bless,

Bag seed is always a great starter.
Shes just probably not a strong finisher.
My current bagseed grow is 3 weeks into flower and going for at least another 4 more.
Odor control was more of a problem during veg, now they just faintly smell of skunk at 4 ft tall.
Not necessarily a sign of low potency, however...

As posted, it may be due to the strain (or maturity). But I'd say give 'em a few more weeks and you may be wishing they smelled less :weed: Lilacs, oregano and basil.....oh my :eyesmoke:

Good luck with your grow!

Smell means NOTHING (except it is pleasant) .. Consider yourself lucky,.. anytime I am well into a crop and it hasn't started reeking up the joint yet, I consider it a dandy crop indeed. Before you know it towards the end you will be going 'holy heck, I need fresh air'..

You're doing thing's right as happy plants don't stink. It's a defense mechanism for the plants to communicate dangers to each other. If all is well low smell nothing to complain about. Something not right it stinks to high noon calling for help or warning the others.

As for bag seed it is at least as good or better than 95% of what those so called "breeders" are peddling mutt crosses of who knows what lineage. So once you learn grow skills well then you can research the true breeders and try them out. But nothing wrong with bagseed. Schwag gets that way from its procurement, packaging and transportation not because of its genetics. I grew out a bagseed for a bro of mine last summer and it turned out to be really sativa with purple resin and an electric high.
But again happy plants don't stink.

Which breeders would you consider reliable?

And as for the OP's topic, smell doesn't necessarily mean good/bad genetics. From what I've read C99 was a strain that was killer and known for being a very low odor plant.

It's all in the genes in my opinion. Some strains I can smell from upstairs in the house, others they can be in the next room and you wouldn't know it.

You're absolutely right about c99. But when you rub that stem... wow.

first month or veg they stink bad , and last 2 or 3 weeks of flower they will sink very bad . but in the middle flowering not so bad, speaking from some body that gets sun burns from hps lamps I would know, and never get out side, lol in the actual sun. live like a vampire
