Out of curiosity, what do you do with the potato slices? Just put them on top of the soil?

Never heard of using them before. Never really had a gnat problem, but just in case.

From what I read you put 1/4 inch slices on top of the soil and the gnats prefer to place the larvae in the potatoes instead of the soil. Then trash the slices every 1-3 days till the gnats are gone. I'm about to start this tactic as soon as I get to the market for some papas, I've noticed I have a gnat prob as well, so if anyone would care to add please advise.

I had might still have gnats. I searched everywhere and had loads of suggestions, these are what i used.

The cheapest control i found was ground cinnamon. Cheap easy to buy and smells nice as well.;-)

More expensive was gnat off. Expensive and you have to wash through soil making the soil really wet which i don't like on young plants.

A great solution is Diatomaceous Earth Insect Killer http://www.cleanairgardening.com/diatomaceous.html. This is good for all crawling insects. I now use a bit in every container just incase.

Good luck with it.
