Northern Lights and Boss Hog 600 W Indoor grow!

I am setting up a grow in my closet in a grow tent with 600w of HPS lighting. This will be my first official grow, I tried hydro when I was younger but long story short, it got busted by a parent who didnt live with me at the time and found it one day. Now that conditions are much better and I am much older (22), I am giving it a second try. Currently I am picking up my supplies on saturday but am germinating 6 seeds (2 HB and 4 NL) under 120w CFL until then. Enjoy and I'm glad to have anyone alongside the ride with me! I will definitely be needing advice on ventilation and anything else that strikes your eye.

1 has sprouted and the rest are in the process, will keep pics updated every few days/ whenever there is a clear difference from before.

What reflector would someone suggest I use since my space is relatively small 2' by 3' and I want adequate ventilation? I am buying from HTGsupply.com since their store is nearby.

Hey goodluck man! I reccomend you get a lumewave reflector, Im not sure if your store carries them but at my local store they have ones for both Cfl and Hid lighting. 1x2, and arent meant for huge grows so it they give off pretty low heat. Godbless

Day 10 is here and I ordered a 400 W Hortilux Blue MH bulb for the veg state which should arrive just in time for the growth period. I plan on vegging until about a foot and then switching to flower.

One of the Boss Hog seeds didn't make it but every other seed is doing well and fully sprouted now. The second set of true leaves is underway

I am ordering a 6 inch inline fan along with a duct muffler and carbon filter next week

Same boat as you man , 22 finally able to grow , bout to harvest my second plant. Subbed in can't wait to see how this goes.
And with the fan don't buy a cheaply grow lush of eBay , they are really noisy and vibrate a lot

Great to hear, how did you find your first experience after harvest came and it was finished?

I plan on buying a vortex as ive found them to have the best ratings. Since tax refunds have just come in and this is definitely a stealth grow in case anyone from outside the house comes in i'm going for the best of the best equipment wise.

And the ventilation arrives. Not as quiet as I would hope but I am hoping that after getting the carbon filter tomorrow that will dampen things a bit.

Enjoy!

A carbon filter will help. You can run longer ducting on both sides of the fan and this will further reduce the sound. I find that most of my noise is caused by the rush of air as it enters the fixture. By placing a pre-filter in front of the fixture you will break up the path of air and decrease the "woosh". One more thing, your speed controller will bring down the noise too by reducing the cfm running through the system. Hope this helps.

Setup looks nice and clean. Good job.

I do have a prefilter but I took it off in case it would restrict air flow. I will see how it is without it tomorrow and see which sounds better. Thanks for the feedback!

I am going to wait on a speed controller to make sure this adequately keeps temps down and once I see it does, then i will look into a controller.

You mentioned in another thread that your DG stuff arrived today, will you be using it in this thread by chance?

Yes I will so I am looking for the results and growth to start picking up. I will be giving the first dose later today when the lights come on. I plan on starting off small and working up, about half strength at first.

It was your thread that inspired me to try DG.

I'd recommend their 'maintenance' directions on their bottle. Good luck!

Phresh filter arrived and thankfully sound is down to a minimum. With the closet door closed you can barely hear a hum in my room. SO wonderful!

I also translpanmted them into their smart pots and they have taken well to them.

And now that I have dyna gro, I added its first feeding today and the growth is looking wonderful compared to only two days so far. Exponential growth here we come

I am about 5 days behind you. How much light are you giving these seedlings? Or are they in veg state?
