I'm not abusing them this one has been sat in a closet for 2 years just want to see if this one is as good as I've read the only people I have seen slating them are saying they use ph strips and I don't care what anyone says they arnt that accurate with nutrients either that or my eyes are shit

No matter how you grow having exact pH everytime is not necessary, in fact, I vary it intentionally because different nutrients are absorbed better at different pH levels. I don't mean 5.5 one day and 6.5 the next - just a slight variance. Your eyes may be shit like you say, but I can assure you that the color of the drops are always dead on. I use the attached chart and the colors are very accurate - don't use the colors on the bottle because I found them to be off a bit. I like to pH at around 5.8, so as long as the color is orangy/yellow, it's good.

Maybe they are accurate but I can't use them and with a meter I will always stagger the ph up and down just wanted to know what people think of these meters

I've used that pen in the past, it's been around for awhile. Yes, there are cheaper meters out there, but in my experience, Oakton can be trusted. Also Hanna, Milwaukee, of course BlueLab.....even the cheap-ish HM Digital seem to have a pretty useful life.

I've seen a bluelab one for £70 I only went with the oakton one over blu lab because I can see the oakton ones have room in the cap to keep the cleaning fluid in does the bluelab

I've had oakton, bluelab, HM, and all we're done in 2 years, bought this puppy for $27 (I believe) and it's now in its second year of living hell (I drive em like I stole em) and still ticking :). In saying that I may have gotten real lucky but I'm done spending $100 bucks a pop.

So here is what the tech at oakton had me try with one a few years back. Boil water and remove from heat then put the meter in the water and let it sit for 8 hours (don't turn it on) then try it. Didn't work for me but.....

Ya that was from amazon or eBay. I just ordered two more different ones that I will try and report back. As for the drops/strips, well I'm sure they work kind of lol, but I like to keep my water at 5.6,8 and the plants seem to like it :).
