of course he's gonna extend it. do you think he wants the repukes to start saying he's soft on terrorism, one of their main arguments during the elections??

they (repukes)were betting on this not to happen to use it against him, so he naturally extended it. now they must fling some soil and say he's against the bill of rights, or some other ridiculous accusation.... * yawn

i'm surprised it isn't an attack on women, or minorities, as is the case with most of rick's posts....

As long as he goes around the world bowing to everyone, he will be weak on terrorism. The only thing Obama is doing right is in the areas where he merely continues Bush policies.

There were hundreds of provisions in the Patriot Act. Obama renewed 3.

Three sections of the Patriot Act that stay in force will:
-Authorize court-approved roving wiretaps that permit surveillance on multiple phones. NOTICE IT IS COURT APPROVED
-Allow court-approved seizure of records and property in anti-terrorism operations. NOTICE IT IS COURT APPROVED
-Permit surveillance against a so-called lone wolf, a non-U.S. citizen engaged in terrorism who may not be part of a recognized terrorist group. NOTICE IT IS NON-US CITIZEN

The OP is a pretty feeble attempt to imply an infringement on civil rights equivalent to something the Republican administration initiated.

Good lord, you guys are hilarious. If he hadn't signed it, you guys, rush limbaugh and dick cheney would all be screaming hysterically about how obama is soft on terrorism and leaving us vulnerable to attack, but now you conveniently play the civil liberties card? Are you fucking kidding me?

I'm not crazy about it either but keeping those three provisions in place seems like a pretty good compromise...

what can anybody tell me about the financials provisions of the patriot act??

i haven't read up on the subject in a while.

i remember they were being used to investigate non-terror related cases to gather evidence, in violation of privacy laws in several states....

i will acknowledge that the extensive laws that deal with racketeering and organized crime are getting a little antiquated, in terms of their wording, and the financial world has completely changed since they were passed so a revision should not be too far away....

anyone has any updates on that??

And now, Obama makes policy decisions based on whether or not the talking heads on the Right will approve. As if that would be a legitimate bases for them in the first place. You guys are losing what little credibility you had.
