odd question regarding veg lights.. switching between hps and cfl 12/12

edit: i think the title should read 24/0 but switching, i wasn't sure how to word it but 12/12 is misleading i guess.

hey guys, i kind of have a unique situation until i can get some better privacy screens on my windows.

the closet i am using for a grow has 400w light, the room the closet is in faces the street and through the window at night its pretty obvious there's a light on all the time in that room (light coming through blind/curtain to outside).

it just gets too hot to close at night- during the day i can leave it slightly open and since the sun is out anyway- its no problem. however, at night, i have this issue.

i have a hydrofarm fan bringing in fresh air and then venting through attic, it just unfortunately doesn't keep cool enough with the door completely shut blocking light.

what i have been doing is using the hps during the day and my old CFL setup at night, varying each light setup depending on day/night.

day- hps (got to keep the door open to keep cool)
night - old cfl grow setup (with this i can close the door completely- blocking light at night)

when i switch them into flower in a month or so i won't have this problem either.

my question really boils down to this- is switching between light sources in veg a catalyst to my crop hermy-ing on me? it's just messing with the flower cycle or anything since it keeping light on the plants at all time, just different types of light.

sorry for the essay, but i am trying to explain as much as i can to get a solid answer.

if anyone has any idea, let me know whats up.

soon i will get a lightblocking screen for the windows to hopefully block all or most of the nighttime light so i can use the HPS all the time.

Do you have any air coming into the closet. 12v fans are very cheap. aim slightly "up" when using so air goes to exaust. Also 12v fan motors don't seem to heat the air as much as regular current fan motors.
Your question was about the light change, true, my apologies for the divertion. It's just a exaust only situation has never worked for me. you only mentioned one fan if you have more, never mind.
"positive" air flow into an enviroment can be very benificial.

fresh air intake is sucked in through a long narrow grate under the slit of the door (which also blocks light underneath). it's being sucked in by a 260~ cfm hydrofarm centrifugal fan-- which provides intake air to plants and also is routed into a air cooled reflector and then venting into the attic.

So if your not using the window as an air intake and just need to block light from shinning out temporarily....do the ghetto thing and hang up a blanket at night....You said you have a long term solution coming with the blind which is good so get creative for now....black plastic from home depot...anything really...best of luck

yeah... looks like i am scrapping the project for now. had six little plants going but its no big deal.

heat in texas summer will make it impossible for me (air conditioning and centrifugal fans included) to keep air temps down to a level that is passable in a closed closet with a 400w hps.

i thought i could make it work, but without a major electricity bill (which i am very opposed to) i just don't see it happening.

thanks for input anyway.
