hi guys thanks for ur replys. my m8s been thinking bout hes options and he has decided that he is going to
supercrop them about half way down the plant, en veg for a week or so so plant has time to recover. then if they /
do recover try and keep an even canopy and scrog this run.what u guys think bout his decision?

I truly see no point in supercropping or topping personally. Full canopy control can be achieved by training and tying the plant - plus yield has to be greater as you haven't removed any of the plant.
I'd agree if time was capped, like if you had to be done in 5 months or something.

But if time isn't a critical factor, and you have an extra 7-14 days (or however long you want, or however long it takes) the 2 or 4 or 6-cola topping method seems to allow for a good balance between the plusses, e.g. more bud in main colas/canopy management/better light penetration of HID, balanced against how much lost time/arrested development of plant growth is suffered.

So is above wrong? Or you don't like tradeoff? Or don't want to give up the time? So, enough guesses, why do you feel that way? Just curious, mainly cos I like your posts.

Be glad to help, but I've not enuf experience to give advice from past grows with the same issue.

I can repeat things I've heard about how to slow growth or reduce stretch. Some methods should only be used in extreme situations, things like removing fan leaves (plant slows a bit while it replaces them), but others are more routine, like upcanning (plant's development is redirected to growing roots for a while), changing light to MH, since HPS tends to stretch more (assuming you have other light set, or smart ballast), tying down, lst, SC, etc.

But my question is because Bigby has some good input, and he spoke more generally (not just in context of his advice to you), and I'm curious why he doesn't top or train much. Personally, like him I tie down here and there as needed, but also, during veg I like to top above 2nd or 3rd true node when I've about 6 nodes or so.
