So many delays in getting things done lol
Took of a shot of the 2 plants while I had them out of the closet before the tent goes in - what I referred to as the big one is on the left and small one is on the right. They have come a long ways, I have good clones from both. Now time to switch to 12/12 in a couple days and call it good.
I will be able to go at the clones with much more knowledge. 2016-07-03 21.35.04.jpg

Well little more than a month later here is an update:
I didn't get to put them into flower like I planned last month. Day after I posted last I thought I was going to be moving into a different house and so I kept them in a veg state and did some substantial trimming and they remained under the 24 hour light and they got bushy. Is there a stoners merit badge for having a long veg time?

So not going to pull the trigger on a new house till spring so I set up a screen bent the tops a over which had been cut off a few times (I have good many clones)
I still have only fed these 3 times since May and they have stayed very healthy, makes me wonder about all the use of fertilizers being "if it aint broke dont fix it" sorta guy. This probably has something to my longer veg time? (ya I know lights more so) ;)

I built up a homebrew light where I have 10 bulbs now and mostly 27k with a couple 65k. Cold go higher on watts but I have 2x 13, and the rest are 23 and 42 watts.
Added a intake fan and will build up my filter and exit fan later in the week.
I set my timer to transition lights to the 12/12 since I have had them on 24hrs for months. Starting from 18/6 I have it set up to shave a 1/2 hour at sun up and sun down so over a week I end up at 12/12. To try and give it a week to get used to the dark. I have attracted a few fruit flys or gnats but got them with the homemade apple cider vinegar bottle traps and spaying the underside of the leaves. I hope my extra veg time left me enough room in my tent.

Sativa on the right, Indica on the left I am guessing one will finish before the other. This has been a crazy fun so far, still learning. See what the next few or many few weeks will bring.

Congratulations on your grow. Your kids look pretty good to me but I'm no expert. Best of luck in flowering and keep us up to date brother.

Hi my first post here.
Been reading a lot here there and everywhere on grows, watched my share of vids and I thought I would dig out some seeds I had from around 30 years ago. I am 50 now been smoking since middle school as a way to recover from being sent to Catholic Parochial School and I have never looked back.

I live in the pacific northwest and in the 80's most of the weed was from BC or north counties near the BC border. But we did have our share of stuff from Mexico and Central America so I have no idea what these seeds were from but I decided to plant a couple and see what happens.

I don't have the ideal place to grow but I setup a closet with fan and some lights. I am limited on resources so I am sorta seeing what comes with what I have to work with. I know I don't have ideal lights for example but it what I have to work with at the moment. Weed is legal where I live and I can buy at any one of a dozen places from 9am to 9pm so I am not expecting some big yield or depending on this for my stash but it would be nice if it did work out that way.

Here is what I have:
2x of Horticulture E27 5W LED Plant Grow Light Bulb 5-LED (3 Red & 2 Blue) in clamp on reflectors
1x 23 Watt Full Spectrum Spiral CFL Bulb
1x 20 led generic desklamp

1x 8": fan

My soil was 1/2 some generic potting and 1/2 organic mix with vermiculite

I planted both seeds 6 weeks ago and have kept these about 6" from lights that stay on 24 hours a day. I am kinda stumped why one has grown bigger than the other and why both seem sorta small to me for 6 weeks. I have not fertilized yet.

I took some pics today and I am wondering if it is just new shoots I am seeing or am I seeing signs of a sex?
Still learning I just got "Cannabis Success" to read .

Any opinions? What do I have going on here? :) Thanks All!

I am getting concerned about the stretch. The indica plant is starting to look for the giant in the sky, sativa not so much. From what I read most of the stretch is over around 4 weeks of 12/12 and I have read the controversy on trimming fan leaves but I have read in a few places that trimming top fans can retard some of the stretch.

I have also read the stretch can be from plants trying to find cooler air if the overnight temps are high. Well it was high a few nights around 80 but that was a few really hot days we had and it was hard keeping house cool but that part of the summer is basically over and last 2 nights my over night temps were 67-70 its 1:45pm now and currently it is 72 humidity is around 40%. I had added anther fan to the exhaust tube and that really helps get rid of the extra humidity and heat at night.

Just wondering if I should trim a few fan leaves on top or is that BS.

Tuck them under the wire net (SCROG) u have there.

Just do it gently and slowly.

Have a read of the Scroggers thread.

Is very, very low stress so shouldnt bother them at all and way better than them burning.
Gotcha - cool thanks man I got few open spots I can tuck them to.
I was back looking at the scroggers thread and the initial advice of cutting the under branches and then I read on and many dont same on the subject of fan leaves.
There are a lot of fan leaves tucked but piled up touching each other I start wonder about molding between leaves.
Gets to be contradicting info cut the leaves to boost bud growth, dont cut it will stunt growth GRRR lol which is it ?

Up to you really..Mold is bad if your grow is susceptible to it. Any trauma to the plant will slow its growth.

I dont see how cutting leaves off will lead to bud growth. Leaves feed the buds. But im no scientist and have no formal horticulture training.

I'm no expert either Magnetoman but I do happen to be a very fast reader and I've looked through a lot of stuff on it written by people who are.

After reading a lot of arguments for each side I think...that it's a balance. Bud sites need to be exposed to air and light for your plant to think they're worth developing, so trimming to expose buds will cause them to grow more. As long as the plant is still getting enough energy to do so that is...you need to trim enough to expose sites that are worth it, but leave enough leaf for your plant to keep making use of the light.

So my theory:-
1) trim fan leaves on stems that are getting too high
2) trim fan leaves obscuring bud sites that have the potential to produce decent buds
3) trim fan leaves that aren't getting enough light to be worth keeping

Those leaves that are curled up touching each other aren't getting their full surface exposed to direct light anyway. Trim so that the remaining leaves fill the canopy without being curled and cramped against each other, that way you're making full use of the area while thinning out the canopy and getting more light to lower leaves/bud sites.

Week and a day since my last post so this is somewhere in between week 2 and 3.
Thanks for the help guys I took your advice. I clipped couple light starved scraggly bottom branches that were getting more yellowed leaves and some fan leaves to stop possibilities of mold. Tucked the crap out of everything, had to tie down 2 stubborn ones. Lots of fuzzy porcupines all over and hard eye for no bananas.
I still haven't fed anything to them, wondering if I should. 2016-08-31 17.03.48.jpg 2016-08-31 17.03.57.jpg 2016-08-31 17.04.02.jpg 2016-08-31 17.04.13.jpg 2016-08-31 17.04.29.jpg 2016-08-31 17.04.43.jpg 2016-08-31 17.05.06.jpg

Thanks !

I know I remember getting seeds from lots of Acapulco Gold, Thai Stick, Panama Red and lots of local stuff that was just refered to as Sensimilla which ironically had seeds and I don't believe was any certain strain it was just weed lol so we will see
First thing I thought of was, If the seeds are viable (which they seem to be) at 30 years old you may have some really rare genetics. My info is that the old school Acapulco and Panama Red are basically non-existant today. Find an long time grower, or post some good pics on riu. and try to identify the plants. IMO making a batch of fresh seeds from these heirloom strains is a must. Get some help if you need. Don't let a possible treasure slip through your hands.
