With strings, racks and cloth hangers? Brick weed was pretty common so fermentation was also a common thing back in the day.
Really all the weed back then was sun cured?they would sun cure

A lot was. Read the original growers guide by mel frank. Half the bud pics in that book were sun cured.
Back in the 60s 70s 80s and probably the 90s Mexican commercial growers would hang their buds up and cheese cloth sacks up in trees and dry them that way

One method that they did back in the day that I think still could be used that’s not is the brown bag cure Where the buds are placed into a brown bag with the top wrapped backwards so there’s airflow and then the brown bag is just rotated periodically this is after you’ve hung your buds up to dry

Oh heres another one:
after drying and curing, back in the day it was more common to use citrus peels(without fruit on them) to make trichromes more visible and enhance the aroma. It also rehydrated buds if they were too dry.

Cheap mass field weeds in the sun. If you try to store it in a building without fans and any control it will rot most years than it wont. You dont hang you throw it down in a pile... You can hang it if under shade but outside, no direct sunlight, lots of airflow.
In both cases, sometimes, when stars alight, you get cured weed in 9 days. Like, SERIOUSLY cured weed (compared to never curing and sometimes smoking hang under sun directly weed).
And then we would go and sell this shiet, its the marsian weed , its the devil smoke, or whatever the fancy name we would think. And the other guy would add to it more, the marsian devil weed. And actually that how we get the todays market

And then you would run off to a stree light thief that always wet trimmed everything and placed in a drawer that he was always checking and smelling and touching and then ....AND THEN OH GOD HE WASNT FINISHED, HE ISNTEAD OF QUICKLY GETTING RID OF IT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER HE WOULD INSTEAD PUT IT IN A PLASTIC CONTAINER AND SEAL....THE SOUND...THE SEALING PROCESS...THE REHYDRATION....THE MIRACLE !
