Hello! I'm just an old guy living in a place that just made it legal for me to grow. Haven't tried since the 70's...so yes, it's a bit of a surprise to see where it's all gotten to. I'll need help getting started with as little investment I can. Fixed income.
Hello and welcome to RIU. If you are needing advice on equipment post in the GROW ROOM DESIGN AND SETUP section. There are always people willing to help.

Welcome. Most of us are here to simply help and keep learning ourselves as we help.

I would recommend dwc and salts if you want to get started cheep. Everything is relativity cheap other than a light.

Start asking, we will start suggesting.

I dont mean to schill, but I would highly recommend getting some seeds from Dynasty/Relic, Bohdi, or AG seed co.

Dynasty just makes killer weed. Talked to alot of folk on here and other forums, extremely few complaints on any of his work, and he is one of the few guys breeding extensively towards sativa leaning hybrid plants. Bohdi is as proven as they come, he has a large library to choose from for a fair price, AG seed co has a few classic strains and new hybrids with good deals going on all the time.

Honorable mentions, Fluer De Mal has some worked heirloom lines at a decent price. AK bean brains is a sweet dude, has a menu full of heat, but you have to email him, to which he isnt the fastest responder, and payment/shipping is a bit more of a task buying direct, but he loads you up with freebies and seeds to make it worth your while. Humboldt CSI also loads up fat on freebies and has a very good reputation in the community. Humboldt seed company has some really flavorful, quicker flowering plants. Potency isnt crazy, but their work is consistent.

I have only grown Dynasty, Bohdi, Humboldt seed company, and AKBB seeds, but I have all of these peoples seeds in my freezer because of the hours spent researching reputable breeders. This isnt comprehensive, but I hope it helps in some way.

Welcome to RIU!

Hi Gary. MO OR MN ? If you have a spare bathroom, It would make a cheep grow area. You will need to black out any windows and a light trap for under the door. You could skip the tent and a preinstalled vent is very handy.
Grow in the tub. 400 to 500 watts of led and a fan or 2 for air movement. I have been using jacks hydro and coco in fabric pots for years. My 25 lb bags are still 1/2 full. 2 grows a year will keep you in stock.:peace::leaf:

Check out the deals thread. There's always a light to be had cheap. There's a few off brand tents that are as good as the name brands. End of summer some one should be posting some cheap ass fans soon.
Ask your local hydro shop for some clones if you buy any of your supplies there people like to spread good cuts around the community.

I'm in the same fixed income boat.
North Atlantic Seed Company has 2 dollar seeds. They have some excellent marijuana. Look on their website under best sellers.
AC Infinity is a good company for your tent and fan needs. Their fans are quiet and reliable, their tents are heavy duty and reasonably priced.
There are other manufacturers that are cheaper and almost as good, up to you as far as how much you can spend.
Make sure if you get a tent it's at least 6 feet tall.
Basically you choose Hydro, Coco or soil for your medium.
I recommend SIP pots with good old Walmart Pro-mix mixed with potting soil for the growing medium. GH Maxibloom for nutrients.
With Hydro and Coco you need to water everyday unless you fix up some kind of auto watering system. With a SIP pot I water every 3 to 5 days.
Hydro and Coco will give you spectacular results if done right. SIP pots not quite as good but not bad.
I like Viparspectra for lights but there are numerous options. You should be able to find a sale on something. Migro has some good videos where they compare lights.

It is a fun hobby and you can spend as much or as little as you want.

I started with an old florescent light that I would start seeds under and then put them outdoors, and always got enough to last me all year long, for basically the cost of a pack of feminised seeds. Most years I had enough to share too.

Good luck!!

Outdoors in Minnesota is a challenge. Especially this time of year, I wish I could though!
