Orange Spots

For the first time I'm growing 4 plants that are a week old in a hydro system that has an 8 gallon reservoir. Mixed in with the 8 gallons of water is 2 tsp. of Dyna Grow 7-9-5. The plants themselves are in rockwool cubes and grow rocks, however they are beginning to develop orange spots on the leaves. The watering schedule has been inconsistent at best I admit. Why are they turning orange, and how often should I be watering these plants?

How are you watering them, drip or flood?
What is the pH of your soup?
What does the Dyna Grow bottle say to use?
Oscillating fan, moving fresh air?
What kind of light, how far away, how many hours?

I mean, just saying they've got orange spots, we've got to know some particulars, after only a week it sounds strange, maybe they're just getting ready for Halloween.

Flood
6.5-7
that is how much it says to use
Yes moving fresh air with fan
400 watt metal hallide, 18", 24 hours

Halloween is approaching, sounds reasonable. lol

Ummm ... how big are the spots? Hopefully, they are not real tiny, and tons of them. Have you noticed any webs? Yikes!

Excellent info, thanks. Pest damage was the first thing that I could think of too. It sounds like you are doing everything just great. I'd say we have to look at the nutes, but after only a week, I wouldn't think that you would see much reaction yet. The only thing, and this is slight, is the pH is high. I would keep it at 5.8-6.2.

Certainly, the first thing to do is change the res. Maybe with such young plants you should cut the nute strength in half, for the first couple of weeks.

And a 400w MH even at 18" can be pretty intense for young plants. I put my newly rooted cuttings under a 400w at 36", and lower it 6" a day.

That's all that I can think of...

too close to the MH. plain and simple.

You're frying the young lady. She'll be fine if you raise the light some.
