I'm going to put them back up when the temp gets about 95° as I want them to get as much full sun as possible but they'll get cooked if they are not covered. Some Tayberry casualties. Fortunately it's just the very top of the hedge that gets sun all day long. Lower down where most of the berries are is fine. This is the result of yesterday's heat. Cooked on the vine. I wonder if I could just use them as is for a pie. :mrgreen:

Similar experience with our marion berries, the ones that were ripe fried, and the ones close to ripe ripened too quickly and taste almost like bad wine.

The shades I put over our veggie garden I'll probably take down next Tuesday, they're letting enough light in that I think the plants will continue to grow under them, and I'm too lazy to remove and replace them.

So far the cannabis looks no worse for the wear. Being autos they have started flowering already. I don't have a 'control group' under better circumstances to compare them to, so I don't really know if the heat is impacting things like how quickly they mature, how much they stretch, etc. No visible wilting or heat stress though, so far so good.

That is a well tended garden you've got there. :)

It's a little rough looking but I do multiple crops a year so some of the bare spots have already been harvested for what was growing there and I've replanted stuff that hasn't taken off yet. In another month the cucumbers and beans will be filling the vertical structures on the left and right.

I don't know how well tended it is. I have a bunch of stuff I'm letting go to seed so I can collect them. Plus the bees love the flowers from the cilantro, carrots, radishes, etc... I'm a seed hoarder of all plants. But it sure makes things look messy with all the stuff flowering and falling over. But it's my baby and I love it regardless. :mrgreen: It's all organic. Nothing but KNF and JADAM. I should have been using those growing methods years ago instead of using chemical fertilizer. Not a drop of commercial fertilizer or any other commercial product. I've just been inoculating with microbes I collected myself and fertilizer I made from plant material gathered in the yard.

We live on a well and the water pressure isn't good enough to use rainbird type sprinklers and the fan type that yaw back and forth usually get stuck in one position, so I rigged up the stationary sprinkler on top of a six foot ladder haha worked pretty good to water my wife's gardens today , I usually have to move the sprinkler like 8 times to cover the whole garden , now just 3 times ,.

Mine too , no wilt , they seem to be loving the sunshine, I'm really happy I dug those deep holes , I have a feeling they root system really went deep in time to handle the heat wave

I wish I could grow directly in the ground. I'm just in 3 gallon pots so my girls are in the shade. I left them in the sun until it got above 90 and then moved them. They still got about 6 hours of direct sunlight. I can't grow in the ground because I have people that come over and may need to move the plants. Not all my friends smoke weed and some have children. I need to portray the Brady Bunch lifestyle from time to time.

Record high temperature broken in Portland yesterday and we're going to break it again today. It's crazy hot. I've been in heat like this before from spending a lot of time in Arizona and Texas. The thing here in Portland is that it's not normal and many people have never experienced it and are not prepared. In Phoenix everyone has air conditioning.

I lived downtown for years and the apartment I had was an older one without air conditioning. A 90° day was brutal being on the 3rd floor and on 13th along I-405 with an entire side of my apartment on the west side getting the full sun until it went down. I can't imagine what a 112° day is going to be like for many. The good thing was I had one of those old clawfoot bathtubs I would fill up with water and every 15 minutes or so I'd take a soak to cool down.


If you haven't already please provide a source of water for the birds.

Can't imagine being a person living without housing with this kind of heat! Glad we have the public drinking bubblers downtown!

We have 4 large water dishes plus a few insect sized ones scattered throughout the yard, all are being used..

my wife was out watering this morning she usually takes care of the bird baths,,, ill double check,, the humming birds have food i can see taht out the window,
we have a good breezze blowing up here on top of springwater ridge, and it has my cannabis plants bouncing around in the breeze,, thats gotta be helping them transpire more, yesterday was dead calm and they got thru that, so hopefully the breeze will enable them to get thru todays hotter temps,, its 108 on my outside thermomter in the shade

Air movement is light here but better than nothing. Went out earlier and checked my pots, the coffee bag stuffed with straw technique really seems to work well! Thanks to my wife for the idea! :weed:

2:15pm. It's 104º in the shade, and 111º in the hoop house: How hot would you let it get before you threw a tarp over it and blacked it out?

It's hot. I just got back in from outside. I was out for about half an hour and came back in sweating like a pig. The heat felt like a punch in the face walking out the door.

I'm going to be frying an egg in a little while.

Fried egg sandwich on a 100+ day sound so good. :shock: Make sure the ketchup is cold!

How'd that egg turn out? :)

Temps are starting to drop here, there are tall firs across the street to the west of us, that willl cut the sun out completely around 6pm. At 3pm I wet the ground down in the structure again (I had done it first thing this morning) and that brought the temps down by 3 degrees. So it never went over 114º in there, or 106º here in general on the property (obviously, in the shade). I guess we were lucky. Tomorrow is another day.

I deal with a week or 2 of over 100 degrees out here in the Midwest every summer
Just keep’em watered and they do fine almost thrive if it’s going to be near 100 I water in the morning and again mid afternoon

Definitely feels good to be on the other side of that weather event. And overall, no worse for the wear. I hope everyone made it through in good shape.
