Organic gnat control

This last year has been the year of gnats. I was growing in ebb n flo table with coco pellets and grow stone. The gnats were sick. I used organacide and Dr Fosters Microbe lift. It has a strain of bacteria that keeps the pupae from becoming juvenilles from hell. It worked but I had to hang sticky traps and apply organacide every three days to top of media. The fuckers even went into my mother that is in a deep water culture with hydroton. They don't like that as much as the organic materials. I also noticed they don't like the sure to grow either. They will crawl on top for second or two then fly around and try to go back and leave again. I was wondering if there is a product that will kill the eggs and the adults that is organic or that can be easily wahsed off with little or no toxicity. Do gnats like rockwool? I have butterhead lettuce in rock wool and I don't see them in there at all and I thought that was odd. I found another product made from mums and the guy says it great, any info? I think it is called preen oil or extract. Anyhow any help with the gnats is appreciated. I have tried so many things and I want my next grow to go a little easier. These warm winters suck. No moisture issues in soil around house as all is turned off for winter freeze. My house plants don't have em either. My girls are in grow tent in garage no moisture for up to an acre or more away and that is my neighbors horses. They have to be the breeding point:blsmoke:

Got rid of my gnat problem 3 months ago with GoGnats (cedar oil) from Hydro-Organics the makers of Earth Juice. I used 1oz of GoGnats per gallon of water and drenched my pots, and then added 1tbsp to a sprayer bottle and hosed my plants down. I also started adding Diatamaceous Earth to my soil mix before planting too.

Hey thanks, I use the DE as well, I put it in soil mix and on top. I think mine was too soft though. I used the swimming pool pump version at home d. The plants loved it though. It made my plants grow faster and stronger and it was the only thing I added for that month. How long did it last or did the gnats stay gone? Do gnats like to get into promix? What kind or brand of D E did you use? All I have is home d unless I go vegas and hit up a nursery.

Damn, I feel your stress gnats are hell, but eliminating all external sources of rotting plants, growing plants, moisture helped me a lot I only get one or two now I just want em gone, fucking dead. I am the master of my girls and boys universe. In my building where I do my serious shit in Hydro they just kept coming, but not when I used sure to grow and very few with Rock wool. Some dude is telling me that gnats don't like promix is he full of it or what? I don't know, so please, anyone using promix getting gnats let me know.

I used that in res and sprayed plants with it, mixed with dish soap, then rinse and do again every three days. The gnats come in through my swamp cooler, I even put sm 90 and soap in cooler. Didn't stop em. Took about a month to kill most em. I will never grow in coco pellets or anything like it those shits love it.

At present my plants are seedlings so I have time to find a good medium that gnats don't like. So far it is a toss up between sure to grow and maybe rock wool. The gnats will go in my mother in hydroton, but not the rock wool and using dr forsters microbe lift has kept them from producing a new generation and today I didn't see any adults.

good to know on the sure to grow my rocks are becoming a pain in the ass to clean
That was my biggest reason to use sure to grow, some hate it some love it. I just tape one big piece of black and white over drain tub, cut three slits, install plants, tape slits with white tape and grow. The only way for me to keep slime down was dump on day six, and flood plants with new water and H202 and close valve and leave in for 30 mins, dump out, replace with ro water and nutes. I used enough water to go to height of the 6/4" block and whipe down sides.

i love the idea of just tossing the sure to grow ive been useing sunleaves rocks for years now they work great lite and porous ,inert but they take forever to clean and doesnt allow me to top dress with pest deterents diotom dust and the like plus forces me to buy enzymes to do away with any organic matter left behind as the root tend to make there way in the rocks themselfs

My gnats never came back after the GoGnats drench. I now ammend my coco/ocean forest mix with DE @ 4 cups per 1.5cf and havent seen anything in over 2 months. The brand I use is from the local feed store called "Nature's Guide" Feed Grade Diatomaceous Earth, 10 pound bag costs me $15 there, and of course my local hydro shop sells it for $15 for 32oz canister. Some say DE doesnt work when wet but it does, how else would it work inside animals ;), of course it does work better dry so once your pots dry out they dont stand a chance. Once a month I will mix 2tbsp of DE per gallon of water and drench all my pots so if there are any little buggers inside my pots they will be completely covered in DE water and once dry they are screwed. It also adds a little silca to your soil since it is made up of 80% to 90% silca.

If you want another organic solution to wipe out gnats, then check out Gnat Maxx. I used it in my undercurrent setup last round and worked like a charm! No more gnats since!
