I agree with everything buddy is saying here except the part about you don't have to do much. Well that depends on the ground and if you are gonna plant them in the ground. If you don't have easy access to them then they will be better off in the ground otherwise they will dry out REALLY fast.

If you are gonna put them in the ground you are best off digging a huge hole 2 to 3 feet deep and starting your plants off early. Its even best to pick your spots the fall before when they ground is still warm.

You mix some peatmoss, perlite, bonemeal and I usually add some type of good soil mix along with the other dirt and put it all back in the hole while adding LOTS of water. Saturate the hole and then plant your plants in the spring.

It is a good idea to start early BUT you have to harden the plants off before planting them, meaning you need to put them outside for a few hours each day gradually building up the time, to climatize them. That way they can handle the cold spring weather and won't die of shock.

If the river water is no good carry jugs in a knapsack like these others mentioned. I always took my dog and a pair of binoculars so it looked as if I was just bird watching or a nature nerd. :? It worked good. I suppose I fit the part.

Its a fun experience so enjoy it.

Lacy:blsmoke:

Using seeds instead of clones is ALWAYS better as they are more stable.
hey man the beautiful thing about growing outside is that you really dont have to do much aside from making sure they have enough water and that the wind or crazy storms dont topple them. If it is a clean river then use that...what happens when it rains or the plant gets nutrience from the soil...same thing so wouldnt really worry about the river water being that bad. they will go into flowering stage by themselves...again another good thing about outdoor. you can put chicken wire around them its up to you depends on the area, and stuff. you will know when to water them...trust me they dont call it weed for nothing...these things grow like fucking mad and tend to take up nutrience/water from every other thing around them. keep that in mind. if you have a dry spell check on them...but you will know by looking at the plant whether it needs water by the colour or not and the drooping of the leaves,etc.. also dont tell anyone be smart about the whole thing (you can tell me hehe) when your starting off...first germinate them I think i did mine in february-march....and then as soon as you know that the frost is gone and the nights arent cold you can put them in the ground this is best unless u want to put them in pots to move them around but then you may stunt the growth another headache cause the root system on these is huge...femmes only get planted in the ground remember...

I have done a lot of grows in forest areas and the thing that you want to consider is tree roots. Some people think you just pop them in the ground, water them and they will be fine. Sure and it might grow 2 or 3 feet but it won't produce like it can or should be.
If you dig a big enough hole then the roots have easy access. The bigger the root system, the bigger the plant.
Plus when you mix up other additives to your forest soil, it retains more water.

If you are planning on planting in a coniferious(pine trees etc) forest the soil will be on the acidic side so you might want to add some lime to the mix,9especially if you are using anything with peatmoss0, if you are planting in a deciduous forest then don't worry about it.

I wouldn't add anything smelly at all because animals are gonna try and dig it up. The chicken wire sounds great but if the site is stumbled upon by hunters, it does catch the eye. I never add smelly stuff, been there done that and now know better.

Just my 2 cents.

Lacy:blsmoke:
depends on where your growing...if its a forest that you know has very rich soil do it natural and you wont even need to fert/nute/or use any chemicals at all. im just thinking your gonna need ALOT of chicken wire if this thing grows how I think it will...you will need alot and it will be very smelly...so plant very accordingly.

well if you plant it right beside another tree or some plant it wil have to compete with the root system

like I had tomatoes beside my plant one year and the tomatoes were starved!

i am planning to grow this summer in minnesota
what are the bes type of bud that would be able to grow there
I was thinking like early girl or purple power?
any thought?

oh yeah thats true
cuz there both competting for water n stuff

You can plant beside a tree. I almost always plant near trees because their root systems are mature enough to reach down way further than those roots are gonna go.

With a tomato plant it is no wonder that one won over the other. Tomato plants and marijuana both require similar nutrients so it doesn't surprise me in the least.

Yeah don't plant tomato plants near your weed.

Thats actually kinda funny:clap:

And yes I would top them. I wouldn't add chicken wire or anything because that just attracts attention if stumbed upon by hunters. Just don't add anything smelly. Those smelly organics that people tell you to add are may be great if you are growing close by to keep an eye out for them BUT that kind of thing is what attracks all those animals around that you don't want.
They don't care about your weed. They'll just dig the sh*t up and make a mess of all your hard work. Been there done that :|

You might find rabbits or smaller animals nibbling the sprouts so best to start indoors and plant outdoors as seedlings. Just make sure to harden them off first to climatize them.
