Outdoor strain - early finisher

Hey folks,

I live in the Northeast close to the Canadian border (~45 deg north), and the average first frost date here is in the first week in October. I've grown a plant outdoors here just once, and it grew like 7 feet tall but only yielded like a quarter ounce, because it was a sativa bag seed and probably needed until like November to actually finish. Obviously, there's no way a plant would survive late into November where I live. So could anyone suggest a good strain that would be a heavy producer but still finish in September or early October? I'm gonna plant some auto ak throughout the summer to have a sure harvest, but I wanna grow some real plants as well without freaking out about frost. I was thinking about just trying out the Northern Lights I grew indoors, outdoors. Would this be a good way to go? Also, gettin a free DNA Rocklock fem seed, was thinking about cloning this one since it says it's an 8-week indoor strain... Any suggestions? What strains have northern growers had success with? Thanks for any input.

Try using indica strains, or hybrids like church i think it takes around 8 or 9 weeks flowering and acceptable yields of course always depending on many variables but overall i think it will fit your time line, also try out TOP44 since i see people having good results with a fast finish... i will go this year with church and Cheese to avoid any mold i will try to stay away from sativa plants because wind can break the plants here in October....

I tried northern lights last year and lost all of it to mold so i wouldn't go with that. Some really early finishers are the Kc Brains strains. There Brains escape finishes around sept 15th. I have also had a bunch of luck with Female seeds Early sativa it finishes around sept 25th.

wow that sucks about your NL. sorry to hear that. I wonder if it could have been the specific genetics you were using? I was under the impression that N. Lights was pretty mold resistant for an indica. It does have pretty dense bud formation though so I could see where that would be a problem. I might try it anyway since it's available and hope for the best. I'm also considering the Seedman outdoor mix from Attitude, it seems like a good bet. But if I could avoid buying seeds i would... thanks for the responses.

master kush from nirvana is supposed to finish in aug./sept.
alot of the skunk/skunk hybrid varieties descriptions say they finish outdoors in sept.,
i've been interested in the same thing. i don't live as far north as u, but still....
one other i was considering was the n.l.xskunk #1 from ceres. i've heard good things about it plus u get 15 seeds per pack from them.
just some suggestions.

One of the best strains for an early finish and potent bud is Iranian Short Season by Dr Greenthumb. It's a short flowering pheno of Endless Sky that's only offered in feminized. It auto flowers even though the parent is not an auto flower, finishes in August in the Canadian climate. It gives up 25% of Endless Sky's yield for the early finish but retains 100% of the potency.

Endless Sky has a 6 week flowering pheno, if you flower out a pack and clone you could get a mother to give you 6 week plants indoors and out. People have reviewed ES as the most potent indica stone they've had. ES Won't finish as early as ISS out doors but you can clone ES. ISS can't be cloned because the cuttings will auto flower even under 24 hour light.
