Over maturing for sleep

I see lots of folks seeking strains for insomnia. Why wouldn't just about any upper strain, deliberately over-ripened, produce that couchy, yuck, I'm sleepy, buzz that promotes going to bed? I mean, what's the real diff between heavy Indica and over-ripened blends?
It seems to me that as we're finding medicinal properties of the various strains, there's gotta be some advantage, or chemical creation, involved in growing 8 week strains to 12-16 weeks.
What d'ya'll think?

I think you are on the money. Beyond over ripening there is a point where the bud starts to degrade. You want to catch it before then. Also starting with an Indica dominant strain will help. Then among those strains there are some that are better than others. By tweeking these things I have been able to manage my pain better.

Effect is more strain dependant, and indica is better for sleep, but if it's harvested too soon you can get a more racy effect, which I hate.

I prefer sativa, but it takes forever to ripen indoors, and the stretch can be hard to manage.

Letting certain strains go way too long, can give a cross-eyed effect, which is just too dopey to be enjoyable.

Breeders often exaggerate the ripening times, and unless you grow under the same 1000w lights they do, you can safely add a few weeks to the flowering period. Less light = longer flowering period.

There's bound to be some positive chemical reaction even in the degrading thc, IMO . . . just not investigated yet?
I think I'd pick cross-eyed, gross feeling w/reasonably quick sleep over insomnia, effect be damned. I'm not trying to get high at bedtime.

I use Bushmaster to control the sativa s t r e t c h . . . it does help. I just need to cure fibromyalgia w/herb.

over-maturing of a sativa will produce a more downer high but it will never be the same as an indica high.

the chemicals are different, sativas containing THCV as a main cannabinoid and indicas contain THC.

so essentially, you're working with entirely different chemicals with the two main cannabis subtypes.

Do you know the difference the "V" makes in the final product? (Laymens' terms?)

I've just almost de-toxed from a nasty 11 year opiate addiction (Day 7) and am still too brain dead to comprehend much. Stay away from pills kids. Ain't worth it.

dunno, all I know is that it's different from normal THC and is essentially the reason Sativa produces such a different high.

From what I've gathered, it appears THCA is simply the pre-dybox (non-heated) chemical.

You're sayin THCA makes sativas different? I don't think so.. I think that indicas and sativas are simply a different ratio of THC:CBD:CBN.

bah. THC A is THC ACID. it has a extra CO2 molecule on it.

every other cannabinoid that I can think of has an acid form.

it's what happens when you burn, boil, vaporize it off. it loses the co2 and thus activates.

sativas have THCV which can have THCV A, don't be confused.
