So just the tops are turned down this morning. I got up Thursday morning checked and the coco seemed a bit too dry for how long I'd be gone so just gave a little splash to hold over till the lights on watering that night. That night the top of the coco had dried again so figured it could still take the watering. I also noticed veg growth has started to speed up considerably so lowered lights to say 30" from 48" this morning top growth pointed straight down. I suggest I should say I'm using 300 wall watts white enhanced red led

I was editing that in while you replied. It's 300w from the wall white enhanced red led. And yes straight coco with perlite

I don’t think your light is the issue. By any means. It’s not a hot light. It’s an LED. As for coco I don’t grow in that so I can’t comment. But I always thought coco was suppose to stay moist.

That was my assumption with keeping coco moist and the heat was an issue... I wasn't getting enough! I had finally gotten around to hooking up the venting to the attic and switching from a cheap wish axial fan to a hydro farms centrifuge even turned all the way down wasn't getting above 72-73 so I lowered the light.

it's not like you can't grow a seedling under a powerful light a good distance away, but it seems like you're always searching for that spot where your plants get enough light but don't get cooked.....i just use t5s for veg, can get within 6 inches and not burn anything. i use a mix of 6 6000k bulbs and 2 3000k bulbs in my 8 bulb fixture, the plants seem to like it, they grow well without too much stretching, i can put seedling on a milk crate 6 inches under the light, have the larger plants sitting on pieces of old exercise mats (to keep roots warm) on the floor, about 8-12 inches from the lights....

I only have the one space and the one light at this point in time but once I'm able to move this will be a veg tent (2x4x6) and will most likely double that and get a 4x4 for a flower

And this is what I was leaning towards especially on the pic of the single seedling but that it was more the top node than the bottom made me question. But then of course the runt is just chugging along without a care... go figure :roll:

you can over water a small plant in coco...they do need a few days to get a network of roots established, but once they do, you should be able to water daily, with no problems....the biggest part of the problem with over watering is under oxygenation...the presence of the water isn't really detrimental,(if it was, hydroponics wouldn't exist) it's the lack of oxygen getting to the roots. that should not be a problem in coco, once they have a chance to get established. the one thing i've learned is that you have to water to runoff in coco, even with small containers. it adds a lot more oxygen to the medium than just getting it damp. and it also helps with salt buildup, which can be a problem when you're watering daily

See and when I was washing my coco instead of running water over it through a mesh strainer it was more like mining with the tub filled and swirling the mesh in it I had to fill the bath tub with water a few times but i bet I had about 4" or more of fine coco peat collectively by the end of it and was left with a very very well aerated medium especially with the added perlite these bigger particles just dont seem to hold the water quite as well where as the peat in the bath would waterlog and settle even with me splashing the water about

over watered. if lights were too intense they would perk up not flop. i wish i could show you intense lighting but too late. moved my flowering plants from my indoor grow closet to outside in the sun they perked up like a mfer reaching for the sky. over time it stopped doing this though been outside for almost 2 weeks now i think.
