oxygenate (aerate) plant water before feeding?

Does aerating plant water before you water your plants really make a difference? if so how long for a gallon of water...maybe 5-10 mins ?:leaf:

you definatley want to use an air stone to aerate your water if you are using tap water. The reason we do this is because tap water has chlorine in it.. They put chlorine in tap water to kill any bacteria. The only problem is the chlorine doesn't differentiate between good and bad bacteria. it will kill your beneficial microbes that break down food for your roots to take up. You want to aerate your water for 24 hours. I know it sounds like a pain in the ass but just mix up your water after each watering and let it sit till the next day. Your plants will do much better. Good Luck!

If you are just going with plain water 24 hours of bubbling should be enough to get out anything you can without using a filter. If you are mixing nutes you should do so and let sit and bubble for 24 hours as well. This usually results in the pH rising up to an ideal level and micro organisms getting a nice healthy head start (especially if you keep the mix warm)

My tap water has a ph of 7.9 and after aerating 5 gallons of it in a 5 gallon bucket the ph of the water rises to 8.6? why does the ph rise? And another question I have is after aerating, is it ok to remove air stone and let water set undisturbed with a lid until I am ready to us it?

well, It was my understanding, that you let tap water sit out to let any chlorine evaporate. I personally use R/O water and put it into a barrel. I aerate it so that it doesn't sit stagnant. I f i was to make it and use it right away, Bubbling it would be pointless. My 2 cents

Aerating water before feeding is pointless. Most of the air will jus dissipate out. Just water plants. Only time yu shud aerate is hydro applications, and teas.
I fill 5 gallon jugs and jus let them sit in my grow room till i water.

I was under the impression areating pre nutrient/ph adjustment was important to remove traces of cholrine. Also displacing the co2 in the water and replacing it with dissolved oxygen will provide a more stable PH from which to work with. But perhaps this just seems more important for soiless grows.

I always wondered what an actual oxygen tank would do for this? Other than making you more prone to fire...that oxygen would go somewhere after it bubbled out...wouldn't want it in a tiny room at the time.

It's good to get a little air if water will not be used for a while, but if you add nutrients, will smell like sewer if you do not use the stones,I do not comprehend chemistry .but I came across this article.Nitrate,oh yeah we were talking about air.Nitrate reduction is not good for farmers.Nitrate reduction is the substitution of nitrates for oxygen as a terminal electRon acceptor for bacteria, this means the nitrates (N03) then becomes nitrite (No2) and if the process stays ,a anaerobic and continues ,then the nitrite is reduced to nitrogen gas (n2) which then escapes from the soil. Many plants thrive on nitrates however if they are reduced to nitrogen gas, then the available nitrogen is reduced and the plants don't do as well. This is why a good deal of fertilizers are chock full of nitrates. Lots of people are stoning the heck out of the solutions I question these genies .I can dump lots of crappie on my lawn, tons of money, but if the phone is way high,or way low, your plants will not absorb.a lime has a ph- 4 ,apply to and when ground absorbs it will balance out. Throw some dirt in bucket to test.I use phone meter, ppm, meter, nitrite meter.moisture meter, and every thing I can, they are my eyes, record record, cause those tomatoes do effect your memory.and do not talk shit,I am full of it.pops did I say that.

Most water companies are fast turning to chloramides not chlorine so the chlorine issue is fast becoming a non point, my water companies shit hot but even they run chloramides over chlorine now.

Now I got to read some more, that's new word for me, we're on a well.I kept hearing guys talk about having ph lock out, throwing hands in air,and never flushing and dropping the media's PH-

If you have small-medium bags or pots, you can use a pump sprayer to water with. It helps break up the surface of the soil and give a slower soak so you don't get dry pockets like a gentle flood can create. If you have larger pots you can just use a watering can to get aeration.

Bubbled 24/7 365 RO in a 55GB for my personal.

I always for years have done a metered amount everyday to get 02 to the roots = Watering it's self draws 02 to the roots = The more the better!

Chlorine/chloride is a micro nutrient used by plants in small amounts. Tap water isn't going to hurt anything.
I find both these statements hard to verify, its still an open ended question for me. I do however use tap water so im not disagreeing either.
