i ordered some persian white papaver somniferum (opium poppy) seeds, and have done some research. i have decided to try to grow some indoors and some outdoors with my old marijuana growing supplies. im not exactly in planting season, but i can make it work since i will be able to shield them from any snow if it does happen to snow this year. I havnt seen any threads here on these so i figured id start an open discussion. Feel free to ask me questions about how you can grow them or about my grow that will be starting in 3-5 days when my seeds get in the mail.

You could have bought some at the store. In the spice area.Yes, they sprout.
i dont think the ones in the store are the right variety, but im not sure.
also ive tried growing some that i ordered, they are the hardest thing i have ever tried to grow. i suggest you grow them hydro because ive seen them grown in dirt compared to hydro and the ones in dirt had stems smaller than a toothpick.

Yeah, I grew a few to see if they sprouted, they didn't seem very strong. The mccormick ones are supposed to be somniforum poppies.

I have a friend thats nuts about the stuff, Ive never had a chance to try it, but my friend said it was very relaxing, and very opium-like in its effects

did he smoke lettuce opium or the leaves or what?
On that website I posted they offer stuff thats already extracted into either a liquid form or an opium rock type deal. He had ordered the pure extract and just put drops of it on his cigarettes.
Im pretty sure you can use all of the plants, leaves and buds, for use. And Im also pretty sure you can smoke the leave/buds the same as you would weed, although I cant imagine it tastes nearly as good

im pretty informed on the growing process once the poppy gets and inch or so tall, but would light from a window be enough to get them to germinate or should i put em under cfls or even outside?

Im going to have to look more into this wild lettuce you sure got my attention with it
