PC Fan to Ac/Dc Adapter Help Needed

Hi I recently bought a computer case for micro growing. I've looked at enough posts and videos on how to connect the red to the red and the black to black to get the fan to work with an adapter but the fan I have which is a 200mm 12v 0.30A also has 3 wires coming out of it. I am pretty sure one is to control fan speed but am unsure of which to connect to what. The adapter I have is a 12v 1.5A as well as a 12v 0.500mA just because I was unsure seeing as I've never done it before. On top of having 3 wires on the 200mm fan, they are also all black with one have longer white stripes going down it. The ac adapter I have is white and I am assuming the red wire would be the one with the long black lines going down it. I am considering just going out and buying all new fans with the simple red and black and a new adapter that isn't cheap from radio shack.

Can anyone help me out here? Its annoying that I don't to even want to start putting everything together until the electrical is done. Any help is appreciated.

yes, you will only be using 2 wires from the fan. one is power, the other is ground. The third wire will not be used. If you want something to control the speed you will need a potentiometer, sold at radioshack for less than 5 bucks. Use your .500 adapter first and if the speed is good then your all set. As far as which wires go where, first u have to strip the wires at the end of adapter. Then just try touching those ends to the wires on the fan until it spins. You won't have to worry about burning fan out because it's really low dc voltage, and your just touching the wires quickly, not twisting them together. Once it spins thats what you use.

Alright well it seems I will have to take matters into my own hands, I'm going to just get a fresh adapter since I think this one from radioshack I don't think even works and 2 or 3 new pc fans as well as some of those plugs to connect wires rather than working with electrical tape. And then hopefully I can find some 26watt CFLs that burn at 6500k. Haven't had any luck finding any over the past couple days though so I may just end up ordering.

*EDIT*
Your comment just popped up after I posted mine joehank. I've already toyed with the adapter and fan but I guess I have some time and mess with it a bit longer. The potentiometer though I will probably go and pick up at some point today.

I love you joehank in the least homosexual way possible. I tend to overlook things a lot. Finally got the shit to spin and it was the most beautiful thing I've seen. Construction has resumed on my grow box. Grow Journal Coming Soon.
