Linux is honestly fantasti, the simplicity of ubuntu is just a joy. But as much as i like it, and i have it on dual boot, i never like to use it. Nothing i do seems to get optical audio to send out correct levels without getting more difficult than i wish for. Audio matter more than anything for me so it's just not viable as a simlpe "plug n play" solution.

Ive got a buddy that works for them in frisco! They give him free new I phones whenever they come out and would give him free personal computers but only uses their stuff for work! He says he hates apple and that it is the most "back assward" company ever! He uses a pc for all his personal stuff (gaming and what not). He told me never go apple because I would never use the programs it excels at. So as I hear from a software designer for apple (my friend) they both work well in their own ways! I've never used an apple so I don't hate them but but I'm a pc guy! I don't understand how people can hate the other so much. its just a piece of tech.

I'll check out cruchbang, never heard of it. Does it have a live cd? I've never had a problem with the audio on mine, but I really only convert movies/music to different formats and shit like that. I mainly like the ability to completely customize the computer, I can play with Compiz Fusion for hours. The fact its free, like education and help should be, is also cool.

One of my laptops is a decade old, another is even older than that, they both work exactly as they did when i got them.
I have a junk toshiba laptop that is about 4 or 5 years old now! one of the cheapest they had at the store! It still works PERFECT! I don't do dumb crap with it and don't try deleting things If I don't know what they are! Most computer problems people I know have are because they did something they shouldn't have! Im not an online gamer or computer tech so the cheap one works well for me!! just the basics email, RIU, solitaire, netflix.

Exactly. Unless you bought junk in the first place, which most reviews or forums will warn you about, no different than macs or any other electrica equiptment, without abuse it should just work until it works. due to the range of macs, you could argue that mac issue rates are astronomically higher than pc's. In reality no, because pepople try and build pc's all the tiem and end up with junk, but there are an awful lot of problems with apple stuff, not just pc stuff.

Anyone seen that new silverstone pc case that kinda looks simliar to a kinda semi rip off of a ma tower case? different shape but just kinda rings like a copy to me in it's styling. I'm talking about the tall square footprinted matx mitx case if i'm being at all vague :D

i never owned a mac, just used other people's. i always find myself asking, "how do i do this?" or "how do i change that?" and the answer is always, "you can't. what do you need to do that for? just do this." very little petty shit that adds up. i'd probably get used to it if i had to but the price is unappealing. i don't care if my laptop looks like it's from 1995. asthetics are the absolute last thing i consider in electronics.

Windows' platform is a dinosaur. It will soon fade away. Windows has done nothing in the way of moving the technological bar in years. Bill Gates would have to scrap the whole windows code and start anew in order to compete with Apple. It's a catch 22 for windows. Windows will soon play their swan song if they don't figure sonething out. Oh and with the 20 or so mac's I have own I have not seen one of those virus's and crashes those PC guy claim we have.

PCs all the way.

And for the record, PC means “personal computer” not “Windows Machine.” It can run any type of OS you like, if it has the specs. (There are more than 2!)

Speaking of which…

When most people say "Mac computer" they are confusing the physical computer with the OS (operating system). The fact that Mac packages their OS in copyrighted computer frame is secondary. You can buy the OS for $40 and install it on a $300 ASUS or HP or DELL that has the exact same hardware specs as the $900 Mac.

Literally, the exact same, right down to the processor. Okay, there might be a slight difference or two, but they are vastly by-and-large identical on the inside.

So really, you are paying $600 for the privilege of having a glowing apple on your computer.

And Apple uses that inflated price-tag (on a computer that actually cost them $60 to make in China) to cover their advertising budget. Trendy isn’t cheap.

So to me, Apple “computers” will always and forever be nothing more than very “cool” toys.

I also loath their constant “updating” of their product lines. I mean, they go up a “generation” every 5 months or so. How fast do iPods breed, anyway?! Like, tribbles or something…

I use a Sony Walkman. It cost me $60, mostly on BestBuy points. It has 16G memory, HD video, FM RADIO (wow, free music!) with excellent reception, and the best audio on the market bar none. Even crap-quality MP3s sound like CDs, and it has all the mixers and whatnot. The battery life is… just wow. I’ve gone over a month without charging it (I don’t really use it for video). I love it. And you know what? If I wanted to, I could even use iTunes with it.

That’s right! You don’t need an iPod to use iTunes… they’d just rather you did, and not realize that there are better cheaper products out there.

Because they are Apple, and that is how they conduct their evil. ;-)

Personally, I enjoy being able to upgrade my computer any time I feel like it, with literally thousands of options available to me, from various competing businesses and brands and manufacturers. I like the choices it gives, the options I have, the deals I can get. I like knowing that I can buy a $400-$500 computer that is every bit – if not more – powerful than the latest $1200 MacBook. And I like knowing that, if I ever felt like it, like if I ever really started hating myself or something, I could dual-boot the drive with a Mac OS. For $40.

As for the OS itself…

Meh. I had 2 Macs, so I’m not a hypocrite, but I was never overly impressed and I am still not. I think it tries to be too much for too many people, and it comes off not being enough for anyone. Well, maybe the perfect Apple-brand user, but not the rest of us, that’s for sure.

Windows works fine as of 7. In fact, it is a lot better than ‘fine.’ And industry insiders say 8 is going to be even better. Face it, Mac didn’t take those hyper-obnoxious “Hi I’m a Mac, Hi I’m a PC” ads off the air overnight by accident.

So, I’m a PC/Windows kinda guy with a little sexy LUnix plaything on the side.

What you jsut stated is an opinion. What I Stated was an observation of the existing OS market and products. And in my opinion, Windows is a Dinosaur. It is a base code that has more and more source code added over and over and over to try and make it new (funny how it looks like OSX now) but it is causing more and more security and stability issues. Apple has something like 1/10th the lines codes in it's OSX making it much more stable and secure. What Windows needs to do is scrap and reinvent. But they can't because the only reason they are still in business is because of the shear mass of the market they gained in the past and it's dependance on windows OS. NOt because they produce a superior product. Apple and OSX is far from perfect but is miles ahead of windows. Zune anyone?

By get to i take it you mean face time? A never before seen technmology that will change the way we communicate! If windows is a dinosoar i'd love to hear your description of apple as it's taken until now to get video calling out there, despite it being around for a decade, and then try and market it as your own idea and a new concept. It's a pile of shite haha, nly even works over wifi, what a scam.

I say Steve stole the Ipad idea from Bill! Watch the interview with both of them together! Watch the interview of them together in 1997! They are asked what do you think the future of personal computers will be, Bill's answer If I remember right was "form function tablet" and goes on to describe it! Here is the youtube link, I don't remember if it is on part one or two.
