They say 2700 and 3500 are ideal for flowering, not sure how 2100 would work my information on this is limited.

AS for what type of sodiums wont grow plants I am unsure its just one of those millions of things I read on the forums.

Well, here's my logic. People say HPS is best for flowering--and those come in 1900-2200 Kelvin. Mine's 2100K, the most common color temperature.

That's correct. But do you have any info on certain types of HPS bulbs w/ some kind of different sodium or something that wouldn't be good for growth? I can't find ANYTHING online. When you're thinking of "sodium bulbs", you might be thinking of low power sodium--those aren't good for growing because the spectrum is bad.

I know a guy who bought one that was industrial and he said it didnt work right so he tried to sell it on craigslist as a grow light.

He got a strong response that there is a difference. and had to re-list it.

well there are grow lights and there are security lights--but they both have the same bulbs from the same few manufacturers--many people use security lights to grow--i have yet to find a difference in the specs that would indicate that it won't grow--guess we'll find out in a few months

So, I bought a Vick's Warm Mist humidifier at Wal Mart today. I put it in the same corner as my stealth PC box. I'm hoping it will raise the humidity in my room and in my case. Anyone else done a PC grow in the middle of winter in the Midwest and inevitably come across low humidity problems? One thing that caught my eye at Wal Mart was a little personal humidifier for $13 that I think might be able to fit in my case! Any experience with these? I already have a wet rag on the screen in my case (not blocking any light)--in an attempt to raise the RH.

sorry matanuska but what your saying about these lights is just plain wrong. i personally use a 400w highbay light from a gymnasium. your friend was probably ill informed by an inexperienced grower, or if you mean to say he has tried it then he most likely has a crap bulb in there. and as a side note my 400W was 20$ from some company who was remodeling a school, try searching your local craigslist , there will probably be a few listings.

Yeah, my established White Dwarf thinks the security HPS is the sun. She's got LED on one side, CFL on the other, and HPS overhead and she's 84F with a pH of 6.75. Once I get my humidity up, she'll think she's in the Amazon.

I just posted some up 5 days ago! I'll wait for the Amnesia Lemon's third set of true leaves to finish coming in--prob 2-4 days--plus, the White Dwarf will continue to grow truly like a "weed" by then--I think the humidifier in my room is helping a tad.

Sweet man! looks like you have about 10-15 days on me! i just sprouted 4 more plants so im gonna upgrade the lighting system this weekend to really make this a good project! I have an extra LED board do you want it?

Your grow is lookin' good too, man. What kind of lighting system are you thinking of getting?

Thanks for the offer, haha. But I can't fit any more light in my box without getting my temps above 86F. Use your LED panel as side lighting for supplement spectrums--really good for vegetative growth. You could even make a vegging box with CFL and LED and use HID for your flowering stage--all sorts of possibilities! :weed:

Just gonna add more cfl's and bigger cfl's attach them to the walls and hang the led on the wall as well.. gonna be pretty cool.. (Goal is to have no lights on the ground so i can maximize the plants on the floor... ) ill throw some pics up for you..

On another note, I think I'm getting a bit of a nitrogen deficiency in my White Dwarf. I added some Fox Farms Tomato and Vegetable Fertilizer, Organic Blood Meal, Organic Miracle Gro (sparingly), and molasses water as a foliar feed to get nitrogen right to the leaves. I really hope and don't think it's nute burn. It's not a pH problem. I don't think it's a watering problem. It doesn't look like a pest problem either.

I think it's a N deficiency since the tips of the leaves (starting with the bottom leaves) are starting to yellow at the tips and the yellow is creeping inward--up the leaf. I'm not getting red stems, bluish leaves, super dark green leaves, wilting leaves, or evenly-distributed brown spots. I really hope it isn't burn or salt buildup. I'll have to disassemble my self-watering pots and do a flush.


Standby for pics in the next few days and info on whether or not the problem goes away.

honestly I have no experience with foliar feeding. I never spray anything on my plants except a litle neem oil in veg.

Not because its wrong just because I don't know anything about it. sorry. I want to know if it works though so I can try it:)

The foliar feeding was kind of just another minor effort. Look at the pics and you can see the yellowing/downward curling. It got worse today, which is why I added more nutes. I think it could be one of three things: nute lockout, nute burn, or N deficiency. The first two force me to rethink my whole self-watering pot setup. The water gets wicked up from a reservoir from below the actual soil pot. ANY EXPERTISE? The pH is 6.75 when I stick the probe into soil after above-soil-watering. If it's lockout or burn, I'll have to make new pots in the traditional style, flush the soil, mix new soil, transplant... This way I could get run-off and test the pH of that and also get regular drainage after watering. The temp is 86F so I don't think it's light/heat burn. What do you guys think? If in 3 days the plants worsens as opposed to recovers, I'm going to flush and repot. Poor little girl!

I've been good up until now but I really need help!
