Perfect mother plant

Hi All. I am about to start the process of finding best mother plant from super silver haze by mr Nice.Am much as i read about mother plants, cloning etc. I have never done it practically and really feel like a total nube.

Does germinating more seeds, let say 30 seeds or 20 is better idea than 10 or 8. I know it seems like an obvious answer but perspective of hand watering, making notes and observations of 30 plants and later 60 clones together with them where i have night shift job sound like a lot of work.

Still trying to figure out how big pots will i need since i suppose to flower them early.I always done scrog that took about 1.5 months of veg.I ready about rule of thumb or 2 gallon per foot of plant but only done scrog and can't get my scrog brain around to understand this and I really feel like an idiot.

Does more plants gives me better chances of getting true the best pheno or is it pretty comon to come across?

I am searching online for in deep guide to this process as the ones i read so far seem to be always giving a bigger picture.

Thanks for your help and spending time on reading this nonsense

Don't start more than you can keep up with but otherwise the more you run the more likely you are to find the best plant you can.

I myself never just run one strain when looking for a mother. I run multiple different packs with a few from each pack. I often find that the strains I was most excited about are not the best keepers. I have had quite a few freebie packs produce better keepers than what I actually ordered.

No but I suppose you could if you were so inclined. It all depends how many clones you wanna take off how many mothers I suppose.
My big fear is that if you have a pump failure or something like that, your motherplants are gone.
With a motherplant on soil you have more work, dirt, chance of underwatering or overwatering, and other things, but it feels more safe.

You definitely have the best odds of finding a winner with the more beans you sprout. If looking for a mom I want to pop 100 beans. Of course this isn't always doable but the more the merrier.
Wow Bro, 100 Beans, thats Amazing and something I'd love to do if I didn't live in a Country with such antiquated marijuana laws. Must be great to be able to pop 100 beans so freely without fear of that dreaded heavy knocking at the door. Just out of a matter of interest if you popped 100 beans of the same strain from the same breeder do you really find there are massive phenotype differences or are the really good breeders managing to stabilise those specific traits that we as buyers are looking for? Cheers

I am not looking for the most common phenotype but that rare nugget that checks all the boxes. May not even find one if you shotgun 100 beans but the odds are better.

Well I grew flood and drain for long time in a lot of locations at once and never had a failure of a pump. I keep my mothers in soil but if I wasn't gonna be here they would be in an ebb and grow.

Thanks for your opinions i really appreciate it.
I wonder how long do you usually veg when searching for best plant?

Well if I am shotgunning beans I veg long enough to get cuts off them that will stay in veg then I flower the plants pretty soon so as not to waste time. Once I know who survives the cull I can get to growing for yields. I like a flood and drain SoG for a shotgun run. When I have culled any males, hermies and under performers I can take the remaining plants and make them mothers, do a run of biguns and see who is the best of the best in my production grow format.
