Perlite vs vermiculite

Anyone have any input on which they prefer to mix with their soil and why. I have always just used vermiculite. Old time grower once told me it’s better than perlite but don’t know why. Only perlite locally is by miracle grow and contains slow release nutrients which I don’t prefer.

I prefer perlite...breaks down over time and then is a source of silica. They say vermiculite doesnt break down, i dont like that.

Vermiculite helps hold moisture at root level.
Aeration and soil conditioner.

I tend to use it for perlite / vermiculite Hempy Buckets. At about 3:1

Perlite and vermiculite do different things.
Vermiculite holds water and perlite is for aeration of the soil.

I use both, lots more perlite though. MG is fine I have used it before with no difference from standard perlite.

What I'd like to know more about and maybe try is a more coarse perlite. Anyone use that?
