pH down safety

I have this pH management liquid http://www.growthtechnology.com/phupphdown.asp. I had it stored in a cardboard box in a cupboard near some household cleaning products (with the pH up liquid. very bad idea, I know, but I bought them together and they were sent in this box together, and no bottle had ever been opened), and somehow the bottle was knocked onto it's side.

Anyway, when I next got the bottle out I noticed there was a damp patch around the bottom of the box. So I got it out of the cupboard, donned my safety goggles and glasses and took the bottles out. The pH down bottle looked squeezed, as if someone had squeezed the air out of it and then sealed the bottle cap again. I have no idea how this could happen. The inside of the cardboard box was slightly coroded. I bagged it and binned it. After a couple of minutes other people and I started getting sore throat (which is a symptom of phosphoric acid inhalation (although it seems odourless)). We vented the whole area, and got fresh air.

Anyway this whole episode has spooked me, so I want some advice. I normally just browse the forums (since most questions seem to have been asked before), but can't find anything specifically relevent.

How do I clean this cupboard? There's no obvious liquid contamination, but it figures that if it was dissolving the box then it makes sense that the area should at least be wiped down.

How can I tell if the air is safe? Am I overreacting? I feel really anxious...

I read through this document...
