PH Problems

Why does my PH fluctuate so much? Ill go to bed and the PH will be 5.3 and in the morning the PH will be at 6. 1 plant DWC 450ppm nute solution, what could be causing this lg fluctuation?

The less water or smaller res the more your ph will change. The larger the res the more stable it is.You loose water to evaporation and to the plant drinking which consintrates the ph values ie increases them. you should always check your ph and ppm daily and adjust it and top off in any hydro grow

I have about 10-12 gallons per bucket I forgot to even check water loss from plants/evaporation. God I feel stupid, thanks Fletch

Another good reason to keep your humidity at an ideal range. When your humidity is ideal the less evaporation you'll have from your res. Its always important to take evaporation into account when growing hydro. In fact its a golden rule if you want the best grow possible. Take your plants size, the amount of fertilized water they are using and humidity into account once you master this equation youve just overcome a hydroponic hurdle.

ya its weird again I went to bed the PH was 5.4 and when I woke up this morning the PH was 6 the water level didnt change and the PPM's were about the same give or take 5-10ppm's. So I dont know whats going on.

No evaporation? or not enough to warrant a fluctuation...Are you using any organic ferts? Anything at all youre adding to your solution could be creating this. organic ferts or additives are notorious for causing PH fluctuations like youre describing. Also other additives will cause fluctuations like this as well. Your water doesnt sound like it has a high mineral content(also known for causing fluctuations)...so i'm willing to bet its something youre adding to the fert solution maybe even the fertilizer itself.

I bring it down to 5.0 and let it rise to about 6.5 before doing anything about it... by

that time I'm flushing again. Look at your PH chart nutes are still being absorbed in decent

amounts at 6.5... I wouldnt leave it there for long but it really has no noticeable

negative effect. By the time it hits 6.5 its absorbed all kinds of nutrients along the way.

You sound pretty new to this and thats why you may be tripping on it...6.0 isnt bad.

thanks Lion I wa just trying to keep the PH low so more trace elements were absorbed. Im having a small MN deficiency problem, so Im trying to get as much to the plants as possible and I read a lower PH is better for that. But ya youre right Im probably over analyzing things, you know how it is being a parent for the first time every little bump and bruise you want to find a reason for it.

Yeah my ph does something similar, except for when i go to bed it is around 5.8 and when i wake up it goes down to around 5.3 - 5.4. I have assumed it was due to the amount of water the plants have drank that night. I am using organic nutes and havnt taken that into affect.
