why do you like the dogo more? How is there temperment?
I found that they were a lot more difficult to get under control than a pit. They love to be mischievous, and for the first two months or so like a lot of pups he would chew on everything he could get. Including my xbox and my bed.
One thing I hate more than anything is dogs that jump up on the counters, he was pure destruction if he was left in the kitchen with any amount of food on the counters. He would find his way up there and smash everything in his way.
After the first 6 months of a real difficult dog, he began to mellow out, again like most dogs will as they age. But there was an obvious difference with him. It's hard to explain but I find him to be more of a human being than an animal.
the reason I like the dogo more, Is I personally find that he is more keen to my sense and feelings than my pits. If I am sad he will be the first at my feet, if I am happy he will be there with a toy in his mouth. If I am angry or wary of something or someone he will be sure to stand in between me and whatever else it is.
He is always aware of what is around him, he wont eat his food if he cant see what is behind him, so he picks his bowl up and takes it into a corner of the kitchen were he can see everything that can come towards him. If I am in the bathroom he will sit and wait for me to come out, he will position himself perfectly were nothing can get to me without going through him.
I've taught my dogs different whistles to come, my dogo however doesn't need a whistle. A cluk of the mouth like you would a horse is all you need to get his attention, regardless of where he is in the yard he comes running (I live on 2.5 acres) He was never formally taught this but just picked it up after a year or so of me doing it when he was around and no other animals were.
It's hard for me to explain the exact differences, and why I like the dogo breed more. Maybe it comes down to that just being the breed for me =]
