Planning out a Grow Room

Hey guys and gals! So I want to see what I can do with this space I have available. I am not much of a handyman so DIY equipment is limited to what is easy to make without much equipment. The height is actually over 7 feet but it has a shelf for hangers just like any closet so theirs an extra 30 inches that can be used up top.

Dimensions: 42inx21inx60in

[ ] Soil: Fox Farm Ocean Forest
[ ] Lights: HID Light(HPS + MH) [debating what to get]
[✔] Lights: One 90w UFO LED to supplement HID
[✔] Seeds
[✔] Pots: Plastic cups for veg followed by transplant to pots
[ ] Odor: ONA DIY Fan [no rush but will get eventually
[✔] pH Tester: Milwaukee PH 600
[✔] pH control: pH up & pH down

The Plan:
Germinate 4 seeds using towel method. Move to plastic cup with fox farm soil. Eventually take clones from the hopefully female plants. Place them in a humidity dome which I will get in the future.

Lighting:
Currently I have a 90w LED sitting around which will work as a supplement to whatever I decide to get. I can't decide on what would be best for my space. Its more long then wide so I assume a t5 bar light would give best coverage? I'm planning on either getting a 250w or 400w HPS light but need to know which is more efficient.

Area:
I am torn on what I should do with the space. Should I get a small grow tent(if they even come in such small sizes) for veg and use the rest for flowering? or vica versa? Should I construct a shelf or something? Suggestions for the way to lay this out would be great.

Odor:
I have only heard good things about the ONA DIY Fan so I will make one of them. If I decide to get a tent, will I be able to add a carbon filter with ducts, as in will it even fit? Do I even need it if I use the ONA fan? The ONA fan HAS to be placed inside the room not ouside.

Soil:
From reading the forums this is the last thing I want to go cheap on and will just go with fox farm to reduce problems. Im not good with math but how many 16oz cups can you get from 1.5 cubic foot of FF Ocean Forest?

Nutes:
Don't know very much about this.. Is it really worth getting the fox farm big bloom? I have seen people say it really makes a difference.

pH:

Is there anything about pH and fox farm I need to know about? About my ph tester... I got it about a month ago and have used it a handful of times. I have the small 7.0 calibration water but not sure where it is, should i buy the calibration water or is my pH tester not accurate for good?

No windows :(. Well thats why I am trying to figure it out lol. I don't know maybe bring a shelf to block off the bottom and let it air to the top? Not sure but suggestions would be appreciated!

With the HID you either need to exhaust the hot air entirely out of the room, or have an AC hooked directly to your intake. If you cant do either, CFL's are where its at.

Edit: with a 150-250w HPS you might be ok just recirculating the air and fans blowing on the bulb; but anything higher produces too much heat.

Well I was planning on getting a 400hps so I need to figure out a way to circulate. It seems like I will have to make a duct fan blowing out.

the problem with that is no intake. The room outside is usually 60F-70F and sometimes 80F so I am worried it will screw up the temps inside the room

You have to have fresh air coming in man; that's how plants live and grow bigger/better :leaf:

I've been building my cab for awhile and Im still having to adjust things to account for temp, humidity, smell. It's a fun project and I enjoy helping others.

ok. so I am probably going to add vents. thinking to see if something like this would work. not sure if theres an attachment for ducts to a vent.

You can get something like this http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Materials-Heating-Venting-Cooling-Registers-Grilles/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xg8Zar6b/R-100042684/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

And they make square to circle fittings so it would connect directly to your ducting. Also, you want your exhaust ducting to be at the top of your room. (hot air rises), and the intake should be on the bottom (so the fan in the exhaust sucks up the cold air from the floor, thereby cooling the room).

ok thats good to know. Now I am not a handyman one bit.. but do you think its do-able to cut a 3"-4" hole in the hallow wall for me? Hope theres no rats or anything in between lol.

lol yeah you can cut a hole no problem, that's what I did, except mine goes through the ceiling into the attic. I didn't make it pretty with a grate or anything, nobody will notice since its in my closet (the wife didn't approve of the DIY work though )

ok thanks for the reassurance. I have a hard time changing a door knob so thats why I ask. Just curious about whats in between the hollow walls LOL

just be sure to steer clear of any studs in your walls! it would be a huge inconvenience and waste of time if you hit a stud!

No tent needed. No shelf needed.
Never heard of a ONA DIY Fan.
You wont stay in 16oz cups, so you may as well just buy a large bag of FF.
Don't know about the nutes. I don't grow in soil.
Yes, ph is important and the ph tester will need to be calibrated from time to time. Get the calibration water.

3 plants.
2 x 125w cfl for veg. (Could go with 2 x 250w instead)
600w for flower. Aircooled hood. (Not a cool tube)
Grow them huge.

cut out a vent in the door a. something like this http://www.kitchensource.com/bathroom-fans/fv-11vqd2.htm ive used it got a poster picture from blockbuster put it up didnt know anything was there :D:D
I was looking for something exactly like that, but the price is crazy. I saw a vent at the hardware store but I need to find the square(vent) to circle(duct) connector but I don't know what its called or where to find it.

Yeah I got the large bag of FF. I am planning to put the cups for a while then 3g to 5g. Just wondering if I can reuse foxfarm soil, lets say use the soil from the party cup in the 3 gal.
