Planting in a 55 gallon drum...

I was hoping I could get some help with a few questions I have, help is appreciated. I have 4 plants vegging under two 64watt(6500k) dual tube fluoresants and one 24 watt cfl(2700k)...I'll be upgrading to two additional 85watt cfls(6500k) next week. My questions are: how long are you able to veg before flowering? When is the earliest you can plant outside in(USA) the south, and when should harvest be expected? From the posts Ive read it seems that 5 gallon buckets will be to small, but i have some 55 gallon drums and I wasn't sure if this would be to big(or would it be better to remove dirt from hole and replace with good dirt, directly in the ground). And would you lst an outdoor plant or just let it grow the way it would? Again thanks for the help.

you can always check the farmers almanac in your location i live in Georgia and mines going outside in the middle of march my opinion would just be to let it grow like it should its a weed itll grow just like any other weed your major problem with outside planting will be the animals your going to want to scare them off some how and of course the helicopters ive been told that once there over 4 foot high the cops can spot them in the helicopters and thats 5 years jail time in georgia for manufacturing marijuana

1) Provided we are not talking auto's you can veg for years if you want. Remember, the larger the plant, the larger your potential harvest.
2) Go to a green house in your area & tell them that your wife/husband wants to plant tomatoes in the yard this year - how early can I start? The info that they give you will relate to cannibis as the plants "like" simular conditions.
3) Harvest can be expected sometime before first frost - Oct/Nov? The greenhouse lady can tell you when first frost is anticipated as well.
4) 5 gallon buckets are fine for many plants, but if you start with large plants & have a longer growing season then they may be too small. Dig a hole 24" deep & 24" wide, fill with good fresh soil (not the shit people dig up in their back yard) and mound it before transplanting into it.
5) LST is not necessary outdoors unless you are trying to keep the plant below a fence line, it is done sometimes to increase the amount of tops that a given plant will produce.
That help?

Yes sa this does help a lot, and I appreciate the input! That's bait disappointing that I'll be waiting seven months before being able to harvest the ladies :( but it is what it is. And would autos outside yield a good bit more then they would inside...and would you recomend them?

I see I see, I never really like talking about the cops it's just a buzz kill but it does stay at the back of my mind all the time. I have a spare roll of chicken wire laying around, I think it would be a good idea putting it around it but that might look too obvious?
