plants on top of res?

So I'm building an aero garden out of a rubbermaid tote.

I see that most people do not let their roots grow directly in to their res and I'm just wondering why. I don't have the space to set it up any other way.

My plan for res changes is to build a spare system and just move my lid, with the plants to the other system while I change the water in the main res. Do you see any problems with this?

I will have plenty of oxeygon in the bottom of my res because of airstones so when the roots hit the bottom I guess it will become a DWC.

Any thoughts?

Theres no problem in that fluxcap. I am growing mines in a dwc setup, and when i switch water/nutes i simply get the lid with the nets and place it in a styro foam cool box that has the mix inside while i clean out the reservoir. And after im done i simply get the water thats inside the styro foam and dump the,mix inside the resorvoir and then i place the lid back on. Just dont over do it, meaning leave it out for a long period of time.

Thanks for the reassurance.

The only problem I could see is if the roots grow around the pvc pipes and misters and tangle up, anyone have this problem? This would make cleaning the res very hard.

Maybe I'll just run one row of misters down the middle and have my net pots on either side, simple solutions are the best.
