Please help! A few questions.....

Hi RIU members,

My friend and I are halfway through a small grow at present and have a few questions and ideas that we would like some input on. Our current setup is a 1m x 1m x 2m grow tent with a 400W HPS light. We started with 4 plants but lost 2 over time (this is our first hydroponic grow) so are left with 2 female Snow White plants, currently being fed Canna Aqua nutes. For the full setup look at this...

We are currently in the process of making a seperate grow box for vegging to speed up the whole process (and get more harvests in :weed:) - and are thinking of growing for approx 6 weeks in there, then transferring to the tent for flowering. We are thinking of using cfl's in the veg box, the main reason being they are cheap to buy and run, and won't require too much air flow through the growbox. I have been doing my homework and reading up on the cfl posts and have seen a lot of people saying that cfl's don't give you nice dense buds. My question is - in our situation only using cfl for vegging it shouldn't be an issue, right??? The plants will get the HPS light when they are flowering and produce nice dense buds still??

Does anyone else use a technique similar to this??

We would be interested to know if someone does has experience of this, and whether or not it causes any stress to the plants also.

One issue we also have is that we are currently growing in hydroton (clay pebbles). What do you guys / gals think I should start off in my veg box with - as I don't know of any ways to transplant from one pot to another with hydroton??? We will start the seeds off in the Root Riots cubes.

Look forward to hearing ideas and suggestions from anyone!

CFL are an inexpensive way to be covert but Id stick with your HPS....when I veg with metal halide or CFLS i get a light an airy plant. When I veg with my HPS I get much more branches, leaves, and new growth. If you check out my plants I have a few pics of my veging before 4 weeks of age if you want to check them out. The HPSis truly the best light that i have grown with. I have personally never tried the hydro way but my friends do and at least once a year one of their crops go bad. You have to really watch your hydro and make sure you have all your meters and your PH formulas. CFLs are not a bad way to go at all for veging though. I would use both all the time and drop the cfl toward the bottom of your plants. I was thinking about using a tent set up this spring and getting a 1000w HPS. One quick fix to veg and flower under the same light is to have a blind that velcros or zips up halfway through your tent. That way you can utilize your space.Good luck on your hydro set up I will make sure that I say more prayers to the bud gods so they dont sacrifice anymore hydroplants this year
