plz help..noob problems

ok, im germinating my seeds(in a shop towel if u must know). and i was wondering if i use a small little pot and use a 20watt/12volt lamp would that work till i move my plant outside??, but its still going to be in a pot even if i have to get a larger one. would i aslo go from 24 to 18/6 and then to 12/12?

oh i forgot to say the soil im gonna use, or atleast for now, is what my mom uses...says all natural 100% organic

20 watt 12 volt? What are the Lumens and the Kelvin Spectrum there are many great posts here on lighting and spectrum. Check them out.

not really sure but this lamp is my fav. can light my whole room in darkness and lets off some heat and is real bright aswell.

well lol idk im not sure exactly about specs on my light..but i would say its real bright tho..here a pic of my lamp. it can light up my room, which is kinda useless because you dont know my dimensions of my room, neither do i. i really think i could use it for sprouting tho

Looks like a halogen, but not at 12 volts. Without the specs can't say

yeah looks well like a halogen bulb. I've heard from this site that they give off the wrong light spectrum and get far too hot so cant place them near the tips

the halogen will work it needs to be kept at least 24" away , your gonna go outside w/them any way .

^^how did you figure this one??? halogen's are in the 3000-5000K range and put less to about the same lumen out as a CFL. also the heat up far more then a CFL, get almost the themp of a small HPS.

Schfifty, i would not grow with a halogen, get a 6500K/cool light CFL for the job, that will do a better job with the same amount of power

the way i figured it was i ,myself,personally vegged one plant with a 300 watt halogen .yes it was hot but im here to tell ya it absolutely works . it may not be the best choice but halogen will work ,,,,peace

he was askin if it would "work" and the answer to that is yes. ofcourse the cfl would be a better option but it would still leave his original question unanswerd, peace

lol sorry to ask cuz im really new to this, but could someone give me a link or pic of an example of a 6500k/cool light cfl, this weekend im gonna buy supplies for my plant and i dont know what i need. and if anyone has time could u include stuff also that i could use, like anything i need to grow?

went to walmart and bought expert gardener perfect mix soil is that any good? thats the best i saw, and i also bought miracle gro liquid all purpose plant food that good either?
