for those of you who are as unfortunate as i am when it comes down to getting poison ivy, i thought i might start a thread on poison ivy prevention and cures.

due to weed weakening the immune system i cant even smoke all summer while i grow, cause ...... well ill be laid up in the hospital half the summer. just a few days ago i got some and im only 1/5 the way done getting my clones out. now i have to just grin and bare it until i form some sort of tolerence to it.

so anyone who shares my pain or has any input good or bad, you should throw it down here!

8 billion dollars a year to eradicate marijuana, and we still have "good for nothin" poison fuckin ivy!

lets here it!

weed does not weaken the immune system. it just opens your immune system up to everyone elses bacteria when you smoke with a bunch of people. thats where i think this old wives tale came from

never had poison ivy and I am a big time hunter. I guess im lucky or not allergic. My best friend can catch it in the wind. He will always get it the first week of turkey and deer season, he uses some ointment from Walgreens.

Shitty deal man if I were you I'd cover up all my skin with clothes no matter how hot it is it still beats having that fucking rash all over. On mythbusters they tried vodka but it did jack shit so don't be fooled by people. Go to a pharmacy and I bet theyll carry some shit for ya.

MYTH: MARIJUANA USE IMPAIRS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM. Marijuana users are at increased risk of infection, including HIV. AIDS patients are particularly vulnerable to marijuana's immunopathic effects because their immune systems are already suppressed.

FACT: There is no evidence that marijuana users are more susceptible to infections than nonusers. Nor is there evidence that marijuana lowers users' resistance to sexually transmitted diseases. Early studies which showed decreased immune function in cells taken from marijuana users have since been disproved. Animals given extremely large doses of THC and exposed to a virus have higher rates of infection. Such studies have little relevance to humans. Even among people with existing immune disorders, such as AIDS, marijuana use appears to be relatively safe. However, the recent finding of an association between tobacco smoking and lung infection in AIDS patients warrants further research into possible harm from marijuana smoking in immune suppressed persons.

Now,if you want to try and get an immune system "boost," try taking 1 and a half tagament, split over three times a day(so a half pill a pop). They are experimenting with it as a way to boost the immune system for people with warts, etc.
For poison ivy, try adding about five drops of tea tree oil to a warm bath.If you notice any sensitivity, stop using it.Some folks are sensitive to it.

1st line of defense is to know what it looks like and stay away from it. if u suspect uv been in contact rub dirt on ur skin to lift off the oils that carry the poison. if u get it dont touch ur balls. get to the doctor and ask for um dyprolyne lotion. its a steroid that dries up the poison oak. works in a week

herb weaken the immune system? yeah right i havent been sick except when i shared a joint with sum 1 and got a cold

Have not seen poison ivy since my Boy Scout days, I forgot what it looks like, I'll check Wikipedia, it's been a while and fortunately I have never had the displeasure to rub up against it, I'll definately remember to not touch my balls after an eventual encounter though! Probably shouldn't rub your eyes either, not sure about ointments but I'm no teenager any more and when I go to my spots even if super hot I cover up with tough boots and thick hunting pants and long sleeves, strangly enough I always discover some scrapes and irratations when I get home, I guess I was used to it when I was little, now I only get to play in the woods when I visit my spots. Never had a poison ivy rash but been stung by Stinging Nettle plenty of times, now that shit burns immediately! Instant stinging hot rash for about 15/20 minutes, ouch!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the info about weed and the immune system, it was just a guess cause if i smoke and go into the woods ill 95% of the time get poison ivy, and if i continue to smoke when i have it, it never goes away, ive had it for 4+ weeks before and couldnt figure out why until i stopped puffin for awhile, and noticed that it was far less intense and didnt last half as long. in that same period i was drinkin alot and noticed that drinking seemed to clear up a few spots overnight. 2 nights a go my girl and i threw back a case (75% me) and i also had a 40 before that, and towards the end of the night it almost vanished, it all turned a very faint pinkish color!

its back now cause i didnt shower yesterday and i didnt wash my sheets and blankets. im also taking benadryl, wich i didnt take that day cause i wanted to drink. those two are not a good combo, one time i mixed them and my girl said i was talkin to myself in bed while i was awake!

anyway i cant cover up my body cause i mountain bike to my spots wich is a 5-6 hr trip, and thats only for a small % of the plants. i also have to fill my pack with shit so i cant bring any extra clothes.

anyone else got any other grandmas secrets or pharmacy type cures to add!

kremnon, i will check out the dyprolyne, but i doubt i can get it cause years ago i got cut off more steroids from the doc cause ive used the amount allowed to one person, from previous run-ins with the iveness. this stuff has put me in the emergency room , and observation unit for days.

I've always been highly alergic to poison ivy

but over the last few years, between riding dirt bikes, and now gorilla growing. I've learned how to avoid it.

I got it at the beginning of this year the FIRST time I went in the woods.. but since then, I've avoided it completely :hump:

I ALWAYS make sure when going into the woods, to wear pants and boots. And I MAKE SURE not to touch below my knees with my hands anytime I'm in the woods (rub that poison ivy off your boots, onto your hands, then your hands get all over your face and body)

When I leave the woods, soon as I arrive home, I take my pants and boots off in the garage. Then I take my shirt off inside out, and use it to open the door to get to my bathroom to wash my hands.

An important thing to remember though, don't go touching them pants/boots! They are covered in poison ivy and will be tell you wash them.
But next time I go to the woods, I put my boots and pants on, then walk outside and use hte garden hose to hose my hands off.. That way the poison ivy stays stuck on the outside of my boots/pants and I never spread it to my body.

Also, at least in my experiences, poison ivy wont affect you if it's on you for very short times. So if you think you are infected, immediately get in the shower and make sure you wash thoroughly.
People will say "washing spreads it" but that's just bs. Sure if you don't properly wash it will spread it, but if you was properly you won't spread it, it'll go right down the drain..

I'm knocking on wood that I don't get it again this year. But I've been trampling through THICK brush every 2 days to visit my grow, as well as trail riding my dirt bike 4-5 days a week.

Wear jeans, and a bad pair of shoes/boots. And make sure NOT to touch below your knees the entire time your out.

Destroying it can lead to you getting a WAY WORSE infection

you must be VERY careful while clearing it. When you break a leaf, or a vine, it releases the 'poison' in massive quantities.

When companies remove poison ivy, they wear hasmat suits. As cutting the vine releases most the bad stuff.

Whatever you do, NEVER weed-eat it. That is the worst you can do. And never burn it!

ill check out that soap, there is another one called "phelps knappa" but i cant find it around here anymore, im not sure how effective it is cause it says to use 1/2 after coming in contact and ill spend a whole day ridin around goin from spot to spot.

i do try to always take a shower when i get home and wash the clothes that i was wearin, but that doesnt always happen as i go out everyday right now.

I go out everyday also, but what I do, is use the same pants/boots over and over 3-4 days

Just when I go out in the garage, I put my jeans on, my boots on, and before I touch ANYTHING (specifically my body lol) I go outside to the garden hose and rinse my hands off

That way the ivy is just on the outside of my clothes, and I gotta make sure NOT to touch them. And hope my boots don't come untied lol

oh, and on the eradication issue, humans have NO right to eradicate ANY part of nature. regardless of how unpleasant you may thing it is, those plants have wants and needs completely seperate from your own. its exactly that kind of anthropocentric world view that burried us in the pile of shit that were in today.
