I'm located in Canada and yes the opp/RCMP do fly with there IR camera on and can but don't check every home, but they do see the heat images of everything they fly over in the direction there heading.
I started reading and doing my own test because police need 2 things to obtain a search warrant, unless they have a witness or statement of a person who has see plants growing. So even if they get a tip they still need 2 things to go to a JP for a search warrant.
1. your hydro bill can they see any on/off patterns?
2. investigation u and watching u for a few weeks, watching your place to see what your bring in and out of your home, and if u going to meet people to do deals.
3 and lastly the one i was concerned about the IR cameras.
so if your worried if the heat of your grow house will be picked up by the police INFERRED camera, you can do one of two things..
Go to a rental stores that rents tools for renovations and rent your own IR system. All lot of contractors use them now to find mold in homes instead of ripping out walls looking for it. Then at night with lights on for few hours go outside and look at your place. Just remember the camera your using and the one there using is between a Ferrari and a civic,
or
go buy a IR temperature gun for $40 to 100, then when your lights have been on for 3-4 hours go outside and read all the temps of your houses walls, if the walls where your grow room is located are warmer then the rest, you can be dam sure the cops IR system will see that, and depending on the heat difference they will or wont know you have a setup.
its a easy and cheap way to know if you need to fix the issue.
my testing on a place. theres 3 rooms in a basement and i bought a 100.00 temperature gun and tested all the rooms outside walls and these were my results....
ROOM 1- BARE BRICK WALLS AND A REGULAR ROUND SHADE WITH A 1000W BULB. 79 deg F
ROOM 2- REFLECTIVE DURAFOAM AN INCH THICK WITH 4 1000W ALL IN COOL TUBES 71 deg F
ROOM 3- BLACK AND WHITE 4 1000W IN COOL TUBES 74 deg F
ALL MY EXHAUST HEAT IS ON MY INLET OF MY FURNACE PUSHING HEAT THROUGHOUT THE HOME, EVEN IN THE SUMMER, I DON'T NOTICE IT BECAUSE I HAVE A LARGE AC UNIT FOR MY BASEMENT AND ONE FOR THE REST OF THE HOUSE.
CONCLUSIONS
FOR BASEMENT GROWS. THE BIGGEST HELP IS COOL TUBES AND WHERE U WENT THE HOT AIR. ROOM 2 MATCH THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WALLS ON THE MAIN FLOOR OF THE HOUSE SO YES DURAFOAM WITH A REFLECTIVE MYLAR IS THE WAY TO GO.
USING JUST BLACK AND WHITE WITH COOL TUBES WILL BE OK DO TO YOUR BASEMENT SHOULD BE A BIT HOTTER THAN THE REST OF THE HOME IF U DON'T HAVE A CENTRAL AIR UNIT.
SO AS FOR ROOM ONE BEING 10 F MORE THAN THE REST OF THE HOUSE I DO BELIEVE THEY WOULD ASSUME I WAS GROWING IN THAT AREA OF THE HOME.
