where is the hue and cry for bodycams always on? Tampering with a body or vehicle cam should be cause for immediate firing, placement on a do-not-hire list for anything uniformed, and a felony trial.

Anyone see why the Democrats couldn’t or wouldn’t be aggressive about this? It seems like partner legislation for gun control, with both part of a public-safety subplatform.
Nothing brings change like accountability and nothing is changing policing in America more than ubiquitous video HD cameras, they are cheap as dirt these days and security systems use lot's of them. People have dash cams, cellphones even stream live as well as store internally. Their body cams and those in their cruisers are the least of their worries.

Recently there have been breakthroughs in miniaturization and micro cameras even can use gyro flow image stabilization and are used in FPV drones to capture quality video. This Gopro equivalent (body cam) costs less than $100.

What are Democrats going to be able to do in Texas?

Win the governorship and state wide offices, also I believe they are just 9 seats short for the statehouse. If nothing else they can level the election playing field in Texas. If Texas turns Blue, then along with CA and NY, it will make taking the WH difficult in 2024. The republicans could lose a few state houses over abortion laws, if the democrats can mobilize women over it.

That would be nice. But the Republicans in Texas redrew their maps to heavily favor the Regressives that they run.

Increasingly they are losing the state wide offices and federal senate races can't be gerrymandered. Gerrymandered legislatures are running up against popularly elected governors and secretaries of state. Many states also have statewide ballot initiatives and referendums and they are being used on issues like reproductive rights. In some states they might have democratic governors and resigned republican congress people and senators, if an independent special counsel got to work on them after the election. The governor often gets to pick the replacement until the election or a special one can be held.

If they can take the governorship in Texas and other statewide offices, they can go a long way to protecting the ballot in 2024 and perhaps turning Texas blue in the presidential race.

Gerrymandering is to keep those seats on the state level red (and better numbers in congress). Then the trick is to underfund those gerrymandered districts voting infrastructure (and have potential domestic terrorists sign up to intimidate voters and aggravate the shit out of everyone trying to do their civic duty) so that people have to wait for hours in those 'blue' districts to choke out those voters enough that their ability to sway state wide races is diminished.

getting a law like that passed would probably go a long way with minorities in general, and the progressives in particular.

this should be a federal issue, with no weaseling room for the red states
They tried, but it was one of those 'not going to change the filibuster' situations because the Regressive Republicans kept obstructing it.

Going to need a few more Democratic seats in the senate to get real police reform. And forget about it if people don't show up (like in 2016) and the Republicans win back congress/senate/presidency.

she might be an example to those who still resent the body cam. The body cam shenanigans are enough to shitcan her; the offensive speech is another indicator that we have a cowboy (refuse to say cowchild) cop here. The profession needs to draw a zero tolerance line on cowboy cops, despite the massive body of evidence* that cowboying can greatly reduce criminal effectiveness.

The failure to control her language into a hot mic suggests that she is not temperamentally suited to law enfircement.

A cop needs to develop a cool detachment even when his or her blood is boiling under great stress. She isnt bringing it.

Well well, a rare win. Will take it. Hope she gets the shit kicked out of her in county.

The civil suit will be the one to watch. If I have this right, injuring someone who is inusually easy to injure leaves you fully liable. I hope her department is on the hook for a massive expense.

Dear President Biden,
we need an executive order that makes interfering with video and other recording of police on duty, especially by other police or first responders, to be a Federal crime carrying a mandatory prison sentence in general population.
