Speaking of kings, a semi western king had a rhino gifted to him by a more eastern king. There was no painters or artists there, but the animal was described in a letter and a woodcut was made from that description. The prints were the first likeness of the rhino in Europe. Even after the real thing was there for anyone to see, folks still used the old image as a guide.
