Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners.

That is what I have always understood to be the essence of anarchism: the conviction that the burden of proof has to be placed on authority, and that it should be dismantled if that burden cannot be met.

Because people in England have english muffins and that keeps them distracted. I notice you didn't say "Switzerland" .

How would you pass a law which will be enforced by threats of gun use (all laws are) against peaceful disobedient people and claim that you are reducing acts of gun misuse? All you've done then is shown a preference for inequality and a nanny state.

I would say the essence is equality of individual human choice and that "authority" is an invalid concept.

In modern states, the citizen is politically impotent. A citizen, it is true, may complain, make suggestions, or cause disruptions, but in the ancient world these were privileges that belonged to any slave.

In debates between anarchists and statists, the burden of proof clearly should rest on those who place their trust in the state. Anarchy’s mayhem is wholly conjectural; the state’s mayhem is undeniably, factually horrendous.
