pool shock vs ozone in DWC to maintain 600mV ORP

Hi all,
So I spent about 2 days now researching on how to keep a sterile system and came across many posts here how pool shock can be used instead of Athena cleanse or UC roots at a fraction of the cost(good start so far).
My issue came from finding way to many posts on how to mix the pool shock properly ( dosage wise ).
add 0.1g to 10 gallons is 1ppm , or 1 gram per gallon of ro water then 3ml/gal and so on, what i have a hard time finding is the formula, since pool shock can have different percentage of Calcium Hypochlorite ( some are 52% , 56.44% 61% ) and so on.
So if i have a pool shock that is say 100% how much do i mix then or @52% ?
I came across a post from @jijiandfarmgang were she explained some interesting information regarding ORP , so i started to research that and came across ozone generators that can be pumped into the hydroponics system and controlled by an ORP device, that will turn on the ozone generator when your levels fall below a certain point ( https://milwaukeeinstruments.com/milwaukee-mc510-orp-controller-with-mounting-kit/ )
So if the entire point of keeping a sterile reservoir is keeping the ORP at or around 600mV then why not just use the milwaukee i linked with some ozone generator and never buy pool shock or UC roots and so on ? am i missing something? does ozone increasing the orp same as Calcium Hypochlorite increasing orp ?

What do you guys think? and please if anyone has a formula they can share with me for the pool shock that would be great.

**Note i just found this calculator for chlorine. Not sure if its accurate or not but if anyone can check and let us know that would be great

IIRC, just multiply your desired ppm by the % to get the amount you need to add. The ppm should be based on 100%, so at 50% strength, you'd need 2x the amount. I'll be making my own UC roots w/ a table salt and one of those electrolysis spray bottle devices. 1g table salt to 300ml water, turn on electrolysis and presto, UC Roots. (that's the idea anyways).

As for ozone, the benefit of that is the added O2 in the water as O3 breaks down. I heard higher concentrations can affect some of the nutrients and it's also a higher investment than some table salt and an electrolysis spray bottle. But I've been looking into ozone as well, mainly because I don't want to run an air pump.

Also, are you sure you want 600mV? I haven't done much research on ORP but I read that was the disinfecting level (e.g. sanitization before starting a grow).

can u please elaborate little more? So i have read around that i should aim for 2 to 3ppm of chlorine level or something. so in that case, if i have pool shot that is 50% for example how many grams do i give per gallon to reach 2-3ppm?
thnx

There are already several recent threads addressing this question. Just do a quick search and it will save one of us re-typing it all out again :)
I did 2 days worth of research and as i type this im doing it again. As i mentioned i got plenty of xyz/mg per xyz/L - Gallons but I guess i am having a hard time understanding what this all means in a sense.
Like for example, I read a bunch of times that to kill off bacteria and algae and so on, the chlorine ppm should be 2-3 . Now what i want to know is the exact formula to achieve this per gallon?
so meaning if i have pool shock that is @50% strength how does this translate to PPM of 1 or 2 and so on.

IIRC....
1ppm = 1mg/L
1g (1000mg) of pool shock at 50% = 500mg of available chlorine
1 gal = 3.8L

ppm of 1g of 50% pool shock in 1 gal =
500mg/3.8L = ~131 ppm

You should be able to do the calculations for the pool shock you have and desired volume. If the amount needed is too low for an accurate measurement (most likely will be), then you can make a concentrated solution first and further dilute from there.

The formula jiji posted was total mg divided by concentration

2ppm in 100gal(378L)
756/.65 = 1163mg...I call it 1.2 grams.

I dont like the solution method, just more math to fuck up. I just add the granules to water, stir to dissolve then into the res.

me too. just need an accurate scale. the solution becomes less and less potent the more it's exposed to air.

Ya if you got a small amount of water in the system you pretty much have to make a solution. Its hard to weigh out .1 or even .05g. Almost need to start crushing granules like blow...lol

Amazon has a .01 gram scale for 12$. You are over thinking it a little. Just use .01 grams per gallon and you will be fine.

Someone please check my math , i just want to see if i understand this correctly lol, ya im kinda slow i guess hahaha.
So if i want 3ppm then its 3mg/L aka 11.4mg/Gallon yes?
Now if pool shock is say @50% strength then I need to double the 11.4 to 22.8mg per gallon?
And if math is correct so far and i have a 65 gallon system then i need in total 22.8 x 65 which is 1482mg aka 1.482g of pool shock @50% in TOTAL correct?

Correct.

(Total Liters of water) x (desired ppm) / (pool shock concentration) = mg of pool shock to use.
247L x 3ppm / .5 = 1482mg

THANK U SO SO MUCH!
I love getting real equations and being able to double check my math with it.

Also just purchased an ORP tester and cant wait till that gets here so i can start playing around with it.
I guess to kill pythium one needs about 780mV on an ORP tester so it will be nice adding the pool shock at lower doses say 1ppm at a time and watching the mV rise and finding that sweet spot to kill algea and bacteria but not toast the plants.

the real solution is to remove as many issues a grower has that sustain pythium and then you only need to use it as a preventative and not a cure.
