PPM and PH readings

Hey everyone;
I am sure this will be a quick answer, I just don’t know. When you test your water, do you fill it up percentage wise with what you originally put in? Or do you just fill it up and take the reading? The numbers get funky when you start deleting water that the plant drank.
Also how much water should they be normally drinking? I have three 4 foot Sativa and 1 3 foot indica growing under a sp4000 and using advance nutrients 3 part solution”, ph friendly

I always add nutes water to my rezz

Most check pH pppm daily or more to see if they are eating and drinking and the oh is stable

What they drink is totally on the plant and stage
I usually have plants mid flower drink a gallon a dayAA7A4BCE-8025-478D-9473-F7FF59161AB6.jpeg

Yea I have this chart it is great, so do I add the amount of Nutes the res should be at? I’ve as a little stumped but this helps a lot

Your talking about add back water i think? If so theres a lot of different opinions.Myself I add back about 40%of my target ppm.I change every week and feed on the low side.So if my target is 800 ppm and after 2 days it needs 5 gallons ill make the add back about 350 ppm.
No exact science, sometimes just straight water if there not eating

Ok so for easy math if my res was 10 g and there ppm was 1000 from start, and they drank a gallon and my ppm had dropped to 900 in the 9 gallon res, they would have drank and ate 10 %, so I should try to get it back up to the 1000 mark when. I add my 1 gallon since I see they would have eaten 100. God please tell me that made sense

Thanks so much for answering this guys, I always just added water, and it seemed my ppm was higher after there was a lot of water drank, but it doesn’t mean they didn’t eat, it just means percentage wise for that amount of water there is more Nutes. Just wondering, when I take my readings do I do it before or after I add water /Nutes or both?

Your system has to be covered so your not losing water to evaporation, this makes the ppm climb.I read before top up.

Ok that’s how I was reading as well, my system is covered, I should be loosing a very little from evaporation, just what can get threw the clay pellets in the one net pod

Once you do it everyday for 4 months you will get to know how much water and nutes to add that will bring the ppm or pH to the level you desire. Practice, and take lots of samples.

Thanks for the advise, I take a test every morning, do you think I should do one just before bed as well?
I keep a detailed list of both the PH and the PPM every day on a sheet. Problem is I do work on the road at times, so I can miss several week days for the weeks records

Yes it is a good idea to take a reading at the end of the day, to see what the plant has done that day. In the morning is good because the water has all been mixed up, so you take the reading, it says 600ppm and you want it to be 800ppm so you could make up a 800-900ppm solution and add it. See what your rez ppm goes up to (after it’s fully mixed). Now you know how much it goes up if you add that much.

So do I add water in both the morning or the night, or just do it in the morning? I think to do it at both, but not just assuming. This is great info for a guy really just out of the gate on DWC.

Any time you want. How many gallons is your res? When water level goes down, it creates the empty space between the lid and the water level, you have to decide how much you want to let the water level go down before you add water back up.
You will do great, just monitor your pH and ppm and look out for wild swings

Thanks again, I have noticed most of my girls drinking a gallon or 4 litres per day, you are rite on the button, I was concerned about this water consumption but this chart has helped a bundle and I seem to be in the zone.. today anyways

If you knew how to do the math it can all be calculated to the drop. But that’s too much math so some trial and error with adding nutes and water and pH is what I tried. After many observations I just knew that if I put one full stopper of pH down and one half a scoop of nutes it would replenish my to where I was aiming.
