ppm/ph/temp help with a few ? thanks to all

hello 2 all

i have a new hydro system coming this week
and just got my 1st ph/ppm/temp meter today
Hanna GroChek pH/EC/TDS/Temp. Combo<H1 class=itemTitle>


so i tested my tap water
it was 6.9 ph and 70ppm so i wanted 2 bring it down 2 6.5 with ph down so i did after that i checked ppm it was like 1300ppm b4 i added nuts is this a problem or not ? i just really dont wanna start this hydro thing out on the wrong foot

Have you calibrated your meter? Actually, I have no idea about hydro, I just like looking at your posts. I usually don't even pay attention to what you are trying to say. I just keep lookin at your avatar!

it says it auto calibrats everytime u power it up
but i really do not know how 2 use it that well

Yes... it's a big problem. First ... for hydro you want your PH between 5.7 -5.9. 6.5 is too high.

Also.... there is no way the PPM would go from 70 to 1300 with the amount of PH down used to bring the PH from 6.9 to 6.5. Something is not right. If your tap water is 70 PPM out of the faucet then a small amount of PH down would bring your PPM to about 100 max.... so something is off there.

If your plants are in early veg. stage then you want the PPM (including nutes) to not be higher then 600. Then you slowly work your way up from there as they age.
