ppm question

what are the ppm for growning and what fertalizer should i use?

1. Are you asking what ppm is, or what the ppm of your solution should be?

2. Are you using tap water or RO water?

For fertilizers, I believe in keeping is simple.

Vegging: Pure Blend Pro "Grow." 15ml per gallon of water.

Flowering: Pure Blend Pro "Bloom" 15ml per gallon of water.

In addition to the Bloom for flowering, use CalMag 5ml per gallon of water.

Thats it ... simple, no? Now if you will answer the first two questions, I can help further.

I want to know the quantities of ppm to use in soil and also what quanity to use in hydro.

I'am not sure which method to go with yet hydro or soil?

For soil, don't worry about it.

For hydro, just use the ratios on the bottles and the PPM should be OK. Start out with 1/4 strength, then gradually increase the dosage as the plants mature. For newly transplanted clonesb or seedlings, my PPMs with the Pure Blend Pro is around 600. By the time I get to the last week of the flowering cycle, the PPMs are around 1800. This will vary depending upon strain and the nutrients used. A lot is done by trial and error. Just be sure you don't burn the plants by using full strength too soon.

And, by the way ... there is no comparison between growing in soil and growing hydro when it comes to fast vegging. Plus, growing hydro takes all the guess work out of nutrient strength and watering schedules. Once you have it dialed in, its really very simple. Oh Yeah, and you don't have to worry about lugging all those bags of dirt, or where to dispose of it after harvest either.

Yes. Without a ppm meter, you won't know how strong or weak your hydro solution is. Chances are, you will either be underfeeding your plants by not using enough nutrients, or burning them up by using too much nutrients.

For a soil grow, a ppm meter is not necessary.

Prices for meters can be all over the place. For example, I like over-kill in just about everything I do. So, I opted for a Tri Meter. It measure PH, PPM and solution temperture all at the same time, on a full time basis. But, if money is the issue, there are some real cheapies out there too. I'll try to find a link for ya.

just looked at those tri meters ,very nice i want one,it would be more aussie dollars,but even so all three in one unit is appealing,time to save i think,hope they have them here?

i got my ph meter for 14 and a nutra wand for 28, the thing i like about having them seperate is if one breaks the other is fine and it is less to replace either.

I just got good ph and ppm meters, and I'm so glad I have them! I dont' think you can grow hydro without them. It's like, if I did something wrong, I will know quickly in my meter readings and correct it before it does much damage. Does anyone know why ph keeps going up everyday? I use a base, and a grow formula. I used quarte strength for two weeks into veg and now my ppm has been around 940 but ph keeps floating up to 7.... anyone know why if keeps going up on me every day?

pH will shift up and down as the plant uses the nutrients. It's OK for the pH to swing some, and as you get accustomed to your water, you can allow for that.

I can't recommend any ppm meter LESS than the bloody Hanna meters. Junk, junk, junk.

I LOVE my Truncheon meter.

As long as you calibrate them every 3-4 months or so with a testing solution sachet, the Hanna meters are fine. I spent a total of $60 on my meters from eBay.

It's the only feedback mechanism you have as a grower, other than appearance/aura of the plant itself. The investment in reliable meters is the MOST important part of any grow. Even soil ops will benefit, as you can read the numbers on the input AND overflow solutions and with appearance, get a decent feel for what they're using/needing. With Hydro ops they're an absolute must if you want to optimize biomass/quality.

If you're going to put forth the effort/risk to do it, it's really in your best interest to have the most instant feedback available for your work.

Your plants are useing up nutrs and deposit what they dont use back in the res.I check the res.two time a day. The PH&PPM At the start of lights on and two or three hours before lights out.Ro water is{ reverse osmosis.} filtered water ,distilled water is ro.You will want to use cal-mag plus in your nutrs solution,Ro water has no calcium.Reverse osmosis has all the heavy metals removed,ro is pure water.Hope this helps,Peace

I hear you there HANNA is garbage, Truncheon is the way to go for PH and PPM/EC meters

Yeah get both a ph meter and a PPM meter. Will save you hours of headaches.

I just bought a hanna 9813-6 Ill let you guys know how I like it. I hope it aint a p.o.s.

I would just look into the different brands of nutrient then worry about ppm I would say to start of mixing the way the nutrients recommend,then check your ppm and then you have a base star ting point! I recommend (general hydroponics) 3 part flora series for hydro and soil (grow-micro-bloom)
