Problem with replacing reservoir water!

I built an aeroponics set up, but now that the plants are big (~4 feet), I can no longer take the lid off because the plants fall over.

They are sitting in rockwool in net pots, and don't seem to have any support. The net pots are in the lid, so if I try to take the lid off the plants fall over.

How do you change out the reservoir for aeroponic / bubbleponic set-ups when the plants are so big?

I drop a small water pump inside and pump out into one gallon jugs. Then those nutes go over to my buddys veg garden.

You may be better off transferring them into 5 gallon buckets with an airstone or two per bucket.

Assuming you have an unused hole you can put the hose from a wetvac in and suck water out. You need to fabricate something around the end to keep from sucking roots in. In the future, a drain valve is well worth it.

Dude, no offense but a shop-vac has too much suction to be sticking inside an Aero. Even with something over the end of the hose, the roots would cover that within seconds.

A small fountain water pump slowly draws down the water, not disturbing the roots.

Maybe some shop vacs would. Mine is only 6 gal and it doesn't. Not that I do it that way regularly, but I have done it. Of course you can also siphon it out.

I think I'll try the airstone method first. It's cheaper :) I do have an unused hole that I put a cap on. Thanks for the help guys.
