producing more trichomes!!!

i heard if you increace heat and decrease humidity about a week or two before harvest and put your lights closer the plant trys to protect its self from drying up bye producing more trichomes

it makes sense but is it true...

ive heard of starving it to force the roots to find food and that produces more but i dont know about this..like to find out..good?

To the OP, I too have heard this, but I think that it works better when you decrease heat and decrease humidity. Mother nature does it best, and typically this is what happens to the plant outdoors. Also, some people swear upon a 36 hour period of darkness before harvest, to encourage the plant to make one more push of trichomes. Personally, I would recommend using Gravity, it basically gives a chemical signal to the plant that the end is near, and it makes that last trichome push without all the extra work. Your buds and calyxes will harden up and and you may notice a thickening in the "frosting" layer.

It sounds harsh, but during the last week I will put tacks in the stems
to basically startle the plant.

The theory is that if the plant feels threatened, it will produce more trichomes as a defense mechanism.

It is a very old method. I have read that it is basically an old wives tale or urban myth, but I would love to hear somebody show that it works. I haven't seen a side by side comparison of course so I don't know, but I have read posts by veteran growers saying they tried the ole' tack through the stem concept to no noticeable difference. Not trying to shoot you down, just letting you know what I have read from very reputable sources. I will let you know though that in this same thread the veteran grower trying to debunk these trichome pushing techniques, conceded that he got in contact with a friend with some medical cannabis growing group, and that he too swore by a 36 hour period of darkness just prior to harvesting to produce more trichomes. Meaning you would end the 36 hour period of dark by cutting down the plant. I don't even do this as it would be too inconvenient for me, different plants being harvested at different times and having to setup another closet for this special dark period. Anyways they get all the darkness they need while hanging upside down in my closet.

Agreed, I like the concept though.
I've done it for every grow sense the first, So I can't compare the difference either.

I also have tried the dark period method. I will keep a plant in a completely dark area for at least 36hrs. It does seem to mature the pistols and seems to develop more amber trichomes during this time.

Don't ask me why. It just seems to work for me that way. lol
