So the wife and I were watching TV last night, and during one of the last scenes of Heros someone gave someone an iPod. My wife looked at me and said I hate product placement in programs. We talked about it a little bit, and didn’t think anything else of it. Then Weeds came on, and my wife and I were watching it, hittin the pipe. At one point in this most recent episode, Conrad is standing in front of the grow chart for Advanced Nutrients. I pointed it out to my wife, and her response was well at least that’s something we will use!

This is the first season I have started to see the product placements in Weeds. The first episode where Silas (Hunter Parrish) smokes with Tara (Mary-Kate Olsen.) They went to great lengths to make sure we saw Aleda cellulose papers. So what do you guys think of product placements? Do you notice them? Do you care? Should I start a blog?

:joint:product placements are another way for directors, producers and actors to make huge profits as well as the studio. considering that these huge profits contribute to all the lobbying in washington to keep gaffers and other crew members at a labor status rather than at technical status which keeps these crew members pay grade the same no matter who pays to put what in the film, tv show, etc...
Product place if the scene calls for it, no payment can be accepted for the placement and the company who's product is being used has no say in it's use as the film, tv show, blah blah blah is a product of creation through imagery and sound.
So, to put it simply, no I am against product placement. By the way, anyone watch Shark starring James Woods?

I'm looking forward to the day when I see a bag of weed with a label and a tax stamp as product placement on tv or in a movie.

They were in the grow room and one guy was testing the newb on nitrogen defe. and he said "what are you suppopsed to do" to which the newb replied..."use advanced nutrients connosuir(sp?) somethin somethin. I just thought it was funny because they didn't just show the product...they freakin talked about it!

Oh wow I totally spaced on that one, but now that you mention it, he mentioned the product by name.

I don't really mind when a product placement happens as long as it goes with the story and doesn't take me out of the story.

Last night in some show my wife watches, there was a guy using a Mac, and it was an old Mac, now Apple always puts there newest and shiniest toys in films tv and anywhere someone will see it. I couldn't believe he was using something more than a year old from apple. That took me out of the story more than if it had been a new Mac because I would have thought oh cool i want one of those and moved on!

I've only resecently started watching weeds..so it caught me by surprise for sure. Product placement is an ever evolving area of advertising. You get a lot more bang for the buck because you know exactly what type of consumers will be watching specific shows as oposed to just a certain chanel. I've got an advertising degree so when I see placements or adds I can't help but get distracted

Oh yes they are targeting growers, and users.

This show has been great I picked it up in the second season and went and downloaded the first season! It really is a smart show, and really exemplifies the cross section of people using and selling cannabis in CA.
