Hi all hope u doing great. So
I have gelato 45 and had a ton of issues but the stem was purple since day they showed roots in cloner. So i had them for 2,5 weeks from clones and was fighting algae for last week and finally hydroguard did the trick, i got lot of new roots and trees are growing but stem stayed the same so i was wondering if they stressed to much cuz of algae ? I dipped them in h2o2, tried uc roots washed roots like 3 times and final option was hydroguard at it seems to be working 17261DC3-2BBA-40E2-A5E6-4CD02DCABAD5.jpeg

The color on the stem will take some time to change, when everything's I'm check new growth will be healthy green with bigger structural veins. Magnesium def is pretty common under LED's, what nutes do you use?

I think you should focus on the root issue. I have never used hydroguard but I've seen people having good results with it running a chiller.

Do you run 24/24h or 18/24h light schedule? Water temp is very important and you should play around with different water levels so you see for yourself how the plant roots responds.

I run about 4" gap between the netpot and the water level. Cheers!

I use gh trio , cal mag silica root exc and hydroguard. I do see some green lines along stems , but i got worried cuz its been 2,5 weeks and stem still purple. I run 18/6 , water temp 67-68 co2 1200 , hum around 55% temp 74-76

My guess is they need more food. LED's are powerful and make the plants grow fast. @Doug Dawson can tell you about how much more nutes he needed to use when he switched to LED, and he's using GH. Those pics kinda remind me of how his looked before upping the dose.

Genetic yes that's my guess if you're PH isn't locking Calcium out - temp swings can trigger it.

The plant doesn't seem stressed it could be natural from cool nights vegging in the winter time. I have a RUNTZ that goes purple in winter in veg. anthocyanins - also can be triggered from a cold rootzone. Check ur temps
i had rez temp at 65 but i raised it to 67-68 since i added hydroguard

also one thig is different then my previous grow is used gh calmag instead of botanicare calmag+ but i checked the label gh has more cal but botanicare has iron in it too

Ive always heard in the past that its a lack of calmag that causes purple stems. Also, LED's have been blamed. I dont know if anyone has actually done any real scientific studies, but here are a couple of links from other sites that make sense to me.

Both of these say that its probably no big deal, but could be caused by any number of issues - PH, nutes, genetics - and light exposure. As in too much light. Could be too strong, or due to training exposing stems, etc.

Over all, its not that big a deal unless you have other issues. In which case, the purple stems is probably the least of the worries, or is just one symptom of many.

Do you run a chiller? It's a little hit and miss with mixing organics and hydroponics without a chiller. It's not a matter of if but when you're gonna experience problems. I would drop drop the organics all together and run sterile.

It's almost impossible to get DWC stable through time without a chiller if you add organics.

I've run things sterile for many years. Just the complete plant food (jacks321), potassium silicate and bleach. I add 2-3ppm chlorine to everything added to the reservoir at nutrient change, top off etc.
