Putting pots in ground? Advice please.

I have some girls growing in 15 gallon plastic pots outdoors , they are getting really tall so I thought about putting the pots in the ground for some vertical space. Is this ok to do? The ground is clay. Should I add soil to the hole? Any cons? Any advice is appreciated.

No to your idea. Clay is absolutely unwanted. Transplant into a 32 gallon garbage can with tons of holes drilled into the bottom and the sides a couple of inches up. Break the bottom off the present container. Put it on top of the new planter. Leave about 6” of space for it to sit on.

Someone showed a pic of an unwanted plant that was tossed over a hill and forgotten.
Month later he spots it on it's side, pointing towards the sun, looking good just shorter.

If all your trying to do is lower the plants then yes you can dig some holes and set the pots inside of them. But you definitely don't want to plant directly into the clay as @hotrodharley stated. I had a friend with a homemade greenhouse and his plants hit the top so he just dug some holes a couple feet deep into the ground and set the pots in the holes. It gave him some more vertical space.

I pulled 10 “Chemdawgs” one by one as they hermied. Threw them into the woods and I do live in woods. Last one identified and yanked no later than mid-July. Planted way too many plants like I do every year. Freeze here as early as first week of September. A friend brought another friend and they took a literal pickup load of different strains all in 7 gallon pots. Ready to flower.

He brought a blunt (hate those tobacco wrappers) and we were smoking and joking. He says “So you even have them in the woods?”

The berries and everything else had died back. There were those hermies. Laying on the side with the tops sticking up. Just rootballs surviving on rain. Tough tough plants.
